Kenya Premium Muranga – New Kiriti – Gondo Peaberry
A great more sizzling (high acidity) Kenya coffee. Lighter roasts will show strong lemony floral acidity, sweet edged but almost enough to pucker up if super light, balanced with some hints of the classic spicy (slight tea like herbal) chocolate notes. If super light roasted, very cool acidity but a little underdeveloped in the aftertaste, city roast is perfect for the lighter roast fans. Pushing to a medium roast will greatly reduce the acidity in the cup but still give a very buzzy mouthfeel. Medium bodied and smooth with lots of exotic hints popping out in the cup to let you know its a Kenyan coffee. Darker roasts get much stronger, considered a delicate cup until you hit 2nd crack which will add a full body and more bittersweet dark tones with some excellent depth of flavor. Holds the darker roasts very nicely but almost a shame to roast out the wonderful acidity of the cup.

A very clean, exotic and balanced cup of coffee. Although still considered a higher acidity cup, this offering is more about the fuller body and complex darker tones. Especially at lighter roasts, one will see a more citric style acidity, comingling with a green tea like spice, clean as a whistle, but may be a little sharp for some. Medium roasts bring a more potent chocolaty cup with some floral highlights, lingering spice in the aftertaste. Darker roasts get much thicker and semi-sweet, would put in on the bakers chocolate side of things with some soft fruit and spice lingering on the tongue, a little smoky if you go real dark.

A very cool and sizzling cup of coffee! A perfect example of Kenya coffee. Strong and more extreme cup at lighter roasts. Comes off very lemony with some fruity/floral tones balanced with a clean and very noticeable spicy chocolaty undertone. A little hint of caramel can be found but is pretty easily overpowered by the acidity or spice depending on your roast curve. As the beans roast darker the chocolaty factor overpowers the brighter notes flipping the main tones of the cup. Accentuates the body of the cup turning much fuller. The darker you go, the less bright the cup gets, but no roasting the crispness out of this cup! A very fun & tasty African natural. To see it shine, keep it in the light to medium roast range, although it’s a tasty cup from light to dark.
Light roasts themselves have a stronger lemony floral tone right upfront. For a Kenyan, would not be considered high acidity but will be clearly noticeable in the taste. Behind the brighter floral notes lies a nice semi-sweet stone-fruit tone, similar to cascara or to some, strawberry’ish. The fruit and floral will quickly fade into a more robust chocolate note with some traditional Kenya spice kicking in mostly in the aftertaste.
Medium roasts will mute the floral/fruity tones to just a hint over-top of the more robust chocolate & spice darker tones. Still exotic for a Kenya but promotes more traditional Kenyan like tones the darker you roast. Dark roasts themselves retain a much sweeter edge than the washed processed Kenyans and one can see just a touch of fruitiness as the cup cools.

A good example of classic high end Kenyan coffee. Best in the light to medium roast levels but works at light to dark roasts depending on individual taste preference. Very clean and delicate for a Kenya. Light to medium roasts are sweet upfront with some clear citrus/floral tones. A hint of red fruit balances out with a chocolate like undertone, hint of herbal spice in the aftertaste. Darker roasts are decently less citric and floral, bringing robust bakers chocolate and spice tones to the foreground.

One sip and you will know its a premium Kenya! It has been awhile since we have seen a sizzling arrival, I cracked a smile when we first starting sipping it. Very bright with citrus, floral and buzzy acidity. Make sure you have an appreciation for acidic coffee if you buy these beans. Light roasts will almost make your lips pucker as if biting into a lemon, being a premium cup though, it still has some balance with an herbal spice dark chocolate; mostly in the aftertaste. Medium roasts bring the chocolaty spice into the main tones, a bit heftier cup with a bit fuller body but still pretty lemony crisp upfront. Darker roasts get very strong and unlike many coffees, will still retain a bit of that floral lemon upfront balancing with strong bakers chocolate and smoke.
