This cup falls about half way between an Antigua and Huehue. Lighter roasts show a more Antigua style cup profile, a little hint of floral with some nice and smooth chocolaty notes, a little thinner and sweeter. As one pushes the roast a bit further it develops into more of a malty tone and the acidity falls off, still a sweeter edged coffee up until 2nd crack, which turns it a bit stronger and smokier, much dryer darker toned complexity.

A very cool cup of Joe. Very sweet with good body, a nice clean cup with a little acidity up front, balanced with complex semi-earthy dark tones (like an Indo but much cleaner). A little soft fruit, a little chocolaty factor, and if taken darker a pleasant roast note adding to it all.

A great cup from light to dark. Clean, sweet edged and balanced. Atitlan coffee seems to fall right between and Antigua and Huehue in taste. The brightness is more floral than winy, similar to a nice Antigua. It’s darker tones seem more similar to a Huehue, coming off on the malty side. Light roasts will have some stronger citric tones but were surprisingly clean and defined. Medium roast were smooth & sweet, medium bodied with much less citric crispness, brings the nice and rich malty tones to the foreground. Darker roasts are a bit less smooth and delicate, provides a cool mix of smoky/roasty/malty without being too overbearing like many Africans or Indonesians can be.Price:Price: Original price was: $6.99.$5.79Current price is: $5.79.$6.99/lb$5.79/lb -

Great Buy! Regular Price $6.49/lb
An unroasted Guatemalan coffee bean that produces a lean, rich and smooth cup. Shines from medium to dark roasts. Good body, lower acidity and very malty. The lighter you go, the more floral the cup gets, real light, the floral turns into a hint of lemony citric, but at most roast levels, low acidity with just a hint of floral to keep the cup crisp. Dark roasts flip the tones and get decently strong semi-sweet, thicker, malty tones with some complimenting roasty accents. In the middle, one will find the sweet edged, smooth cup that show cases what a good classic Guatemalan should taste like.Price:Price: Original price was: $6.49.$5.49Current price is: $5.49.$6.49/lb - 6.29/lb$5.49/lb - 5.29/lb -

Smooth, rich and clean, this is a great example of traditional Huehue coffee. We think best from medium to dark but can be roasted lighter for blending. Light roasts will be more floral than chocolaty with some clear acidity, clean cup but enough acidity some might want to avoid lighter roast points, a little risk of grassy tones if way light. Medium roasts are well balanced and smooth, small hints of a winy/fruity factor on a semi-sweet malty base tone. A little spice note pops out in the aftertaste. Darker roasts are stronger and fuller bodied, chocolaty, not too roasty.

Best at a medium to dark roast, this cup brings out the classic smoky and malty tones of the Huehue region. A little sweetness upfront and pretty low acidity, will make fuller roast fans real happy. Lighter roasts work but can come off a little grassy upfront, which develops into lovely smoky and malty tones at the darker roast points.

Why is Finca Vista Hermosa in the name twice? Well just like some artists like a “self titled” album. FVH named one of there plots “Finca Vista Hermosa”. So these beans are from FVH on FVH. Surprisingly not the first plot… but more info on that below.
This cup gets a very sweet and nutty tone right upfront, almost like a walnut dusted with a hint of powdered sugar. The nuttiness fades into a more traditional dry malty tone in the aftertaste. Floral in its aromatics but taste wise comes through as just a little hint of sweet caramel accentuated as the cup cools. Very buzzy acidity, comes off slightly citrus toned at super light roasts but anything medium or darker, one just gets that cool buzzy non-citrus mouthfeel. Exotic for a Guat. and quite tasty.

Although a Natural processed, this coffee does not need the same warning as the other FVH natural lot, it is not a overly ferment fruity cup. Much more traditional flavor profile on this one with a super clean prep on it.
Tasting Notes: Smooth chocolate and malt tones. A red fruit hint especially as the cup cools. Buzzy not citrus acidity adds a little depth of flavor. Sweet upfront, mild, delicate and smooth, a winner in my book. Out of the 4, this is most likely the mildest cup. Very clean with a medium body. What points this cup looses in exoticness it picks up with general drinkability.

This is the farthest from “classic” Huehue tasting coffee out of the FVH lineup. Way overly fruity cup profile, some clean citrus acidity upfront quickly fading into a wild red fruit tone with just a hint of a little boozy factor, balances very favorably with a dryer malty finish. This is a bit of an extreme example of a slow dry Natural. (Ethiopian Sidamo Natural, Indo Bali Kintamani, Nicaraguan Brisas, El Sal Santa Leticia Pacamara Natural style cup) Edwin did it up very nicely but if unsure if you love very fruity naturals, don’t stock up on this guy.

A great gentle smooth and clean coffee! Lighter roast show a hint of winy factor with a pleasant nutty and malty balance, a bit sweeter edged. Medium roasts build a little more body and bring the cup into the low acidity category, medium bodied, less nutty and more malty. A bit neutral tasting but clean and very easy to drink. Darker roasts add a little heft to the cup with some complimenting roasty notes and a bit more of a bakers chocolate appeal.

A great clean classic Guatemalan cup that everyone will enjoy. Lower acidity with a little fuller body, a sweet and semi-fruity edge with a smooth chocolaty undertone. Clean, rich and semi-sweet, the cup is medium bodied with a little new crop winy acidity upfront. Hints of a grape skin like fruitiness with “before 2nd crack” roast levels. The crisper, brighter tones comingle with a semi-sweet very malt like dark tone. We thought best served in the medium roast ballpark, it will handle lighter or darker roasts nicely though. Light roasts will be a bit front loaded with brightness, turns the winy factor a bit more lemony and the malty tones a bit dryer, a sweeter edge to it. Darker roasts promote the bittersweet malt tones, heftier cup with a smoky edge. Great balance right in the middle.Price:Price: Original price was: $6.99.$5.99Current price is: $5.99.$6.99/lb - 6.79/lb$5.99/lb - 5.79/lb -

The most “classic” Huehue tasting coffee out of the FVH lineup. Way cleaner and sweeter with greater depth of flavor than your average Huehue. Medium bodied cup with a very silky texture. Pronounced malty tones and semi-sweet chocolate balanced with that “huehue” winey acidity; which can give a little soft fruit tone at the light to medium roasts. A little floral lemony crispness and adds some sweetness at medium roasts. A cup pretty much everyone will love.Price:Price: Original price was: $7.85.$6.85Current price is: $6.85.$7.85/lb - 7.50/lb$6.85/lb - 6.50/lb -

The Michicoy comes to us from the Finca Vista Hermosa farm in the Huehue region of northwest Guatemala. This farm is third generation family owned and has always upheld the highest standards in coffee growing and processing methods. This farm is a model for many in their shade grown and organic methods. While still grown at a fairly high altitude, the Michicoy microlot is the lowest grown lot at Vista Hermosa so it’s slightly milder and has more herbal tones then the other coffees from this farm, but it’s still a heavy bodied complex cup. Edwin has been producing some of our favorite coffee for years and this does not disappoint.
