A nice clean cup tasty from light to dark roasts. Fuller bodied cup jazzed up with some pleasant acidity, balanced with the classic Colombian toasted walnut and baker’s chocolate like darker tones. What separates it from average is a bit of clean acidity upfront which gives great depth of flavors; producing a sweeter, floral and slightly fruity contrast to the classic Colombian profile. Light to medium roasts are clean, sweet, floral, nutty, slightly citric and have a chance at a caramel like note developing after a longer setup. Medium to dark roasts are far less acidic, more semi-sweet thicker walnut like tones with a little spice in the aftertaste.

A great clean decaf coffee! Good from light to dark. Lighter roasting will show a little lemony crispness, rare for a decaf. Sweeter edged with a little herbal chocolate contrast. Medium roasts cut out most of the lemony crispness and rid the cup of its herbal edge. Smooth and rich, medium bodied, with a more pronounced chocolate tone; a bit floral and sweet in the aromatics, adds to the drinking experience but doesn’t come through in the tastes. Darker roasts are robust and strong, semi-sweet and very chocolaty with a roasty edge.

This is not a super fruity natural, would be considered a darker toned, lower acidity, chocolaty cup. One can tell its natural processed roots with its sweetness and thickness and its Ethiopian roots with highlights of spice & fruity/floral notes throughout the roast range. Best served in the light to medium roast range for drip brew for it will show its best balance and promote a hint of fruity/floral. Turns into a chocolate bomb at the darker roasts, more on the dark chocolate side, which would work wonderfully for espresso or cold brew. Lighter roasts have a pinch of citric acidity and wonderful aromatics, hints of red fruit that balance with a bit of semi-nutty tea like spice.

Crisp, clean and exotic. Great aromatics: nothing like grinding a fresh Ethiopian with its floral, jasmine and spice notes to tickle your nose. Lighter roasts are filled with new crop acidity and floral notes, mostly citric but a little peachy soft fruit tone can be found. The balance of the cup comes from a semi-tea-like chocolate factor. I tend to think of it as chocolate spice notes but many tongues can pick up a little black tea note. Medium roasts have just a pinch of citric acidic, builds a thicker body and brings forth more of the chocolaty cup profile, reducing the acidity slightly. Darker roasts are always tasty for those who like fuller roasts. This is how they would traditionally serve these beans in Ethiopia. Roast capacity for the Fresh Roast SR540 is slightly more than 4 ounces: 120 grams to be exact, or just like previous models, 4 scoops using the included measuring spoon.
This new coffee roaster model has an improved control panel. There are now nine levels of heat adjustment compared to the previously limited Low, Medium, and High settings. The fan also has nine levels of adjustment. All adjustments are made by pressing the knob and turning to change heat, fan, and time settings. It also features a new real-time air temperature measurement. A quick turn of the knob to the right will display current temperature.

A beautiful cup at the lighter roast points. Mild mannered comparatively to the Mosto processed lot, this bean is much more delicate, a bit lower acidity with a little more emphasis on the floral and stone fruit notes. Being a high rated bean, it is very clean (good) tasting at light roasts, which we thought presented it best. There is a little darker toned contrast at light roasts, hints of a chocolaty factor comingle with the fruitiness. Full bodied, low acidity, great mouthfeel, robust and strong coffee with hints of a exotic spice. Lighter roasts get a cool semi-floral sweet tone upfront but will pull more towards grassy caramel with a slight hint of herbal spice. As one progresses towards the darker roasts it gets much fuller bodied and creamy with clean chocolate/malt like tastes, a little hint of floral acidity at the full city roast level. Into 2nd crack adds some complimenting roasty/smoky tones that with the fuller body and malty profile, will be quite the tasty treat.

Lighter roasting will produce hints of a fruity island acidity balanced with a chocolaty/nutty undertone, jazzed up with a hint of herbal spice in the aftertaste. As the roast progresses the cup gets pretty low acidity and the nutty and chocolaty factor will get accentuated. A very clean well balanced cup good from light to dark roasts. Crisp acidity with a small hint of soft fruit, comingle with a more chocolaty cup profile with floral accents. Can be roasted from light to dark but our favorite was a nice medium roast. Lighter roasts: the acidity & floral tones are accentuated and will be the first tastes your tongue will notice, a pinch of an island fruit tone but pretty faint, balances with a little green-tea, chocolate & spice dark tone. From a medium roast on, the acidity is very gentle and balanced with a smooth to rough chocolaty cup profile, milk chocolate before 2nd crack, bakers chocolate and smoky into 2nd crack. Medium bodied and lower acidity, these beans as well as other Kona’s are mild cups comparatively to many other origins, be in for a delicate and tasty cup with layers of goodness.

Besides a chocolaty factor one will get some nutty/caramel/floral like tones at the medium roast points, gives it some nice complimenting depth without being too exotic. Low acidity, thick and creamy, with hints of sweet fruit balancing with a strong earthy chocolaty undertone. Quite the tasty treat and surprisingly for an Indonesian, the best roast we found on this one was in the medium roast range. Smooth, clean, balanced and exotic: mostly a chocolaty cup with a sweet edge, slight hints of fruit and earth. Lighter roasts show just a hint of citric crispness with a little herbal chocolate contrast, accentuates the fruitiness but it is not over the top, too light can come off a bit grassy, make sure the beans are through first crack to just past. A very clean traditional Sumatra cup. Best from medium to dark roasts. Fuller bodied with some nice exotic incense spice notes intermingled with a bakers chocolate and smoky cup profile. Light roast are not recommended (for almost all Indo coffees). Medium roasts were nice and balanced, a little lemony acidity upfront mixing with a bunch of spice and hints of an earthy slightly peaty chocolaty factor; a decent roast point for pour-overs or drip. At lighter roasts; one will see sweet and strong citric tones comingling with chocolate and herbal darker notes, classic premium Kenya. As the cup sets up longer one can see some greater complexity pop out with hints of soft fruit, nutty and caramel like tones. Pushing into the medium roast levels, the thickness increases and the chocolate/herbal factor will be the dominate tone in the cup hiding much of the citric and floral. Hitting 2nd crack cuts out most of the citric and will turn the cup more bakers chocolate, increasing the strength, but loosing sweetness.

A great daily drinker! Works well from light to dark roasts. Very sweet and chocolaty cup of coffee with some lemony/floral crispness upfront. Light roasts will show stronger citrus mixing with a nuttier darker tone, small hint of caramel will show with a little longer setup. Could be a bit acidic for some, but presents nicely for those who like a little citric hit. Medium roasts smooth out the cup and move the darker tones to more along the chocolate like alley, far less noticeable citric tones. Likely the best roast for daily drinking, but much is personal preference. Closer to 2nd crack or touching, a strong chocolate like profile, more semi-sweet with very low acidity and a creamy mouthfeel.
