Bean movement goes off the charts with this extension. Be prepared to dial back everything you know about roasting with the SR-800 once you attach this extension.
This extension device NARROWS and EXTENDS the heating area, so beans are heated at a much faster and even rate. Heated air flow through the chamber is GREATLY increased. You’ll need to dial back FAN settings accordingly, or have beans end up in the chaff catcher.
Adding this extension to the SR-800 is like roasting with an entirely new device. Yes, it’s still a fluid-motion roasting environment, but that motion is GREATLY enhanced, to the point where you’ll need to dial back fan settings in order to maximize batch roast and keep beans out of the chaff collector.
I LOVE roasting with this extension tube; I have GREATER control over heat settings, giving me greater control over first and second cracks. While I HIGHLY recommend adding this extension to your SR-800, it’s with the understanding you’ll need to re-learn roast times/temps in order to maximize the effectiveness of this extension. Once that hurdle is crossed, this extension is a game-changer!

I completely agree with the review from Dean B. This thing definitely takes some adjustment to dial in your roast times (I’m new as it is so I haven’t learned too many habits good or bad yet) but once I dial it in this is going to be a game changer. So much more movement and the temp. increase is much quicker so you have to make sure you are careful and not just cranking it up to FAN 9, POWER 9. It gives you a lot more control over your roast and expands the batch size so that’s a win-win in my book!

This is a must have for the 540/800 roaster. NY biggest problem was time to roast a pound. I used to average about 4oz to run for about hour per pound roasting. I looked at more expensive roasters but couldn’t find a value to size roast. Then I tried the extension tube on my 540 – it was a game changer. I love this machine with the extension. I now can roast 8oz in about 12 mins on average. The beans move a ton more and roast more evenly. This extension makes the roaster a beast. Buy it best money you’ll spend on this roaster if you value your time. I would love to see an all in one roasting chamber with this instead of using an extension. It should be the standard on this machine.
