A very nice classic medium to dark roast Kenya AA – at light roasts it will be pretty bright and full of citrus, a little front-loaded for most, does have hints of a chocolaty factor but it is pretty faint. Medium roasts bring much better balance to the cup accentuating the chocolaty spice factor and reducing the acidity just a hint. The cup is pretty strong with the classic Kenyan spice note. Darker roasts make that classic Kenya herbal tone pop right out. Very clean with increasing body as the roast gets darker. A great balance between citrus, floral, herbal and chocolate. Easy to change the balance of these tones by roast level – a fun coffee to play around with.

A very clean, exotic and balanced cup of coffee. This cup hit the classic Kenyan cup profile on the head without being too overwhelming like some (very balanced in its tones). Not quite sizzling but a very noticeable lemony floral tone upfront at the light to medium roast points balanced with some stronger semi-sweet, heavily spiced (think black tea herbal spice, not cinnamon) chocolate like tones. A hint of soft fruit can be found in the aftertaste but gets overwhelmed but the cups stronger light/dark tones. Light roasts will swing the balance towards the floral citric side, darker roasts more towards the jazzy baker’s chocolate aspect. Holds up into 2nd crack for you dark roast fans. Low acidity and strong bittersweet chocolate tones with the traditional Kenyan spice note that leaves a very smoky tone on the pallet.

A very clean, exotic and balanced cup of coffee. This cup hit the high rated Kenyan cup profile on the head. Sizzling at the lighter roast points, a very noticeable lemony floral tone upfront mixing with hints of red-fruit, a sweet edge to the cup. Front loaded with lighter tones for sure, but a stellar highly rated Kenya should be. As one pushes into the medium roasts, hints of sweet nutty add to the mix creating a little caramel spin, one can pick out some spice notes a little better here as well. Darker roasts will still have some citric crispness but its way muted comparatively to the light-medium roasts. Much more robust bakers chocolate tones, with hints of a fruity edge. Can get a bit roasty super dark, but a compliment to the stronger chocolaty tones that are accentuated with darker roasts.

A very nice and clean AA, although it follows the traditional Kenyan taste profile, it will not slam you in the face with those potent chocolate herbal spice notes like some. A grape skin like acidity, slightly fruity, slightly citric, is pretty strong in this cup especially at lighter roasts. Medium roasts will still be a little front loaded with the brightness but a good Kenya should be, and for Kenyan fans, this is the likely roast for it. The cup balances out nicely a bit darker roast with that higher acidity, a full city roast right before to touching 2nd crack will produce much heftier chocolaty notes with just a hint of brightness.
