The aroma is very nutty and sweet. There was a surprising hint of smoke on the palate. Full bodied and low acidity – this is a traditional tasting Brazil – thick, creamy, nutty and semi-sweet. At the darker roasts a very sweet first taste, almost a little fruity, and then quickly turns darker-toned with a bakers chocolate and slightly toasted walnut flavor. Great blend base for espresso or adding body with darker tones although many will love it as an single origin drinker.

A wonderful example of a fruity natural! Lighter roasts are where this cup will shine. Hints of lemony floral acidity comingle with tropical edged red fruit tones, what a combination! A chocolate like undertone to balance off the cup. Not much for the traditional African herbal/vegetal spice note which many Central or South American coffee fans will love, but may come off as a more delicate cup to African fans. Medium roasts get much more chocolaty and smooth, retains the red fruit tone nicely. Darker roasts pick up some stronger roasty tones, compliments the more chocolaty aspects of the cup, especially as it cools, the fruitiness will jump right out even at darker roast points.

Burundi Kayanza – Businde Station – Washed Processed
A lovely coffee from medium to dark roasts. A chocolate bomb cup (similar to Tanz Peaberry) at the fuller roast levels. Lower acidity, medium bodied, with a strong semi-sweet chocolate note. Hardly any traditional African herbal notes, which made me like this cup even more, smooth and on the more neutral side. If you roast it a bit lighter, you can see some brightness, a hint of lemon and a slightly more floral note popping out, but will not be nearly as chocolaty. Medium roasts build the darker tones and mute a bunch of the citric brightness, a semi-sweet chocolaty cup with a burnt sugar kick, just a pinch of crisp citric that will disappear as the coffee sets up. Hints of nuttiness is the aftertaste with a more milky mouthfeel. Darker roasts (into 2nd crack) turn the cup more robust, a semi-sweet chocolate bomb with a little roasty spice in the aftertaste, much flatter but very tasty with a splash of milk or for espresso/cold-brew.

Grown in the highlands bordering the Kibira rainforest at an altitude of 1,760 to 2,000 meters, this washed lot, produced under the expert care of the Long Miles Coffee Project, offers a structured and comforting cup profile. It moves away from the sharp acidity typical of the region to deliver a creamy, full-bodied coffee. A nice clean cup, tasty from medium to dark roasts. Fuller bodied cup with some pleasant acidity. Classic Colombian, toasted walnut and baker’s chocolate like darker tones comingle with soft acidity and medium sweetness levels. Light roasts can be a little acidic, stronger on the citric notes with just a pinch of soft fruit. A longer setup time is nice on light roasts to mellow it out a bit. Medium roasts accentuate the semi-sweet thicker nutty/walnut like tones with a little spice in the aftertaste, still has a gentle brightness upfront but brings nice balance and a little sweeter edge to the cup. Darker roasts accentuate the semi-sweet tones, turns a bit roasty tasting but works with its fuller body with a creamy mouthfeel, a good roast point if you use a splash of cream.

We thought best around the medium roast level but works well from light to dark. Great floral and soft fruit tones upfront with a bit of brightness, not too overwhelming or potent like some Africans, delicate sweetness balanced with a little chocolaty spice. Smooth with almost a brown sugar hint at a strong medium roast. Pretty much everyone will love this coffee, a great everyday drinker. Strong savory with panela and burnt sugar flavors. Juicy acidity and sugary sweetness.

This is a small holder aggregate production, so not a single farm, but masterful blend of small lots which by blending, create a high end regional example. Larger bean screen, very low defects with tastes to match the appearance.

Lighter roasts were interesting, pulls a bit of sweet green tea like spice, but for most Central American fans, shooting a bit fuller and creating a more chocolaty cup will be the way to go.

A great clean decaf coffee! Good from light to dark. Lighter roasting will show a little lemony crispness, rare for a decaf. Sweeter edged with a little herbal chocolate contrast. Medium roasts cut out most of the lemony crispness and rid the cup of its herbal edge. Smooth and rich, medium bodied, with a more pronounced chocolate tone; a bit floral and sweet in the aromatics, adds to the drinking experience but doesn’t come through in the tastes. Darker roasts are robust and strong, semi-sweet and very chocolaty with a roasty edge.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Washed Gr. 2 – Banko Chelchele
Good from light to dark but we thought best at a strong medium to dark roast. A good bean to go after a rich and semi-exotic chocolate tone with some wonderful aromatics and a bit of spice. Light roasts are more citric and floral with wonderful aromatics and a sweet edged, a bit punchy in the citric department and contrasts with a bit of nutty/herbal/grassy undertones. Works well but needs a much longer setup time bring out smooth and clean tastes, sharp and grassy/herbal if drank too soon. Medium roasts will bring some lovely balance to the cup and provides a clean tasting brew without waiting a week to drink it. One starts seeing the chocolate aspect but will still pull some balance with the citric and floral. Less aromatic than the light roasts, but you can still tell you have a nice Ethiopian with one sniff. Darker roasts touching or into second crack are real robust, strong and semi-sweet, more bakers-chocolate like with tea like spice in the aftertaste.

In light to medium roast range, the cup is crisp, showcasing a brighter citric note that comingles with a little nuttier darker note. Medium to dark roasts cut out the acidity creating a creamier mouthfeel. A smooth and rich cup. A bit roasty tasting into second crack but does compliment the semi-sweet and complex darker tones.

A great super fresh and clean micro lot from our friends at Finca De Dios. Awesome prep, one can tell a lot of care went into these beans. A great medium to as dark as you want to go bean type. Light roasts produce a lot of floral brightness and light fruit notes (almost reminiscent of a nice Costa) mixing with a subtle yet very sweet malty chocolaty note but can be a little more challenging to roast to a light roast – a great morning brew – darker roasts will produce more body similar to the Huehues – very clean non-roasty dark-roast beans – you get a lot of the sweet malty tones and very smooth even into 2nd crack – a very stand up bean at almost any roast level.

From Huehuetenango (Huehue), Guatemala, this washed Maragogype from Vista Al Bosque is a classic “Huehue” profile: very clean, smooth and approachable, pairing winy/floral notes with subtle malty tones and a sweet base of chocolate and caramel; acidity is medium yet pronounced, led by an intense lemon pop and a lime-like finish that stays crisp and clean. The story behind the lot is equally compelling Wilmar Castillo worked for years on other farms before slowly buying and building Vista Al Bosque (“the farm overlooking the forest”), which he now runs with his wife and son. Roast-wise, it shines light to medium for florals and citrus; pushing darker turns it more chocolate-forward with lower perceived acidity.

Pricing is crazy for all of our direct Guatemalans including FVH, peak market pricing was right at Guatemalan harvest time but they are stellar cups from incredible farmers and still and affordable luxury, especially at this intro pricing. From the remote mountains of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, comes this exceptional lot from our long-time friend and partner, Edwin Martinez. Finca Vista Hermosa is a pillar of our Guatemalan offering, and this lot shines with sweet, winy, malty and nutty centered notes. An easy-drinking, “chuggable” cup as some would say, notably balanced coffee that maintains a clean structure.

Awesome cup this season, good from light to dark. Darker roasts which are more traditional for Haitian coffee, come off robust and strong with a floral islandy sweet edge and a smoky aftertaste. Bigger bodied and on the chocolaty spicy side of things. Being a little cleaner, this cup is very good at light to medium roasts as well; sweet with a more nutty/caramel tone, can come off a little herbal too light so tread lightly. A little acidity but not enough to push folks away. A lovely daily drinking cup. Heavier bodied and lower acidity, semi-sweet hints of floral and caramel, balanced with a nice strong earthier chocolate note. Darker roasting makes for a pretty bold cup with some added smoky factors.

As the roast progresses the cup gets pretty low acidity and the nutty and chocolaty factor will get accentuated. Close or into 2nd crack you will get some added smoky and roasty notes that will compliment the sweeter cup profile.

Besides a chocolaty factor one will get some nutty/caramel/floral like tones at the medium roast points, gives it some nice complimenting depth without being too exotic. We all thought it was at its best right around a full city – smooth without too much of a roasty note and great chocolaty tones.

Indian Mysore Nuggets has been a favorite of Burman Coffee and customers for many years and this crop does not disappoint. The aroma is nutty, woody, and some slight smokiness. Many of the notes in the aroma come through in the flavor like walnuts and some smoke. There’s dark fruit, oak, licorice, and some vanilla spice, like a good dry red wine. The finish has a subdued brightness to it with just hints of lemon zest at lighter roast points. The body is medium to full depending on roast and brew. A very rich, strong and smooth cup. A cousin to Sumatra or Sulawesi coffee; Blue Moon always is a bit smoother without as much peaty earthiness, or swampy fruit. A sweeter cup for an Indo with malt, chocolate with a little traditional earthy terroir of the wet-hulled Indonesians. Fuller bodied, a little hint of acidity at a medium roast, a definite go to for our strong-medium or dark roasts here at Burman Coffee. Pulls some molasses undertones as ones pushes into second crack roasts. Hints of slight smoky tone at darker roast.

A great cup from light to dark. Medium acidity levels, medium to full bodied. Although this cup does have some acidic components, all in all, it would be considered a lower acidity Kenya, sometimes they are just sizzling. Our favorite roast level was a city+: starts with a lemony crispness, a little hint of red fruit, balances with a nice chocolate and nutty darker tone with just a speck of herbal spice in the aftertaste. A clean, balanced, and full flavored cup, a great example of a traditional Kenya. Darker roast levels get very chocolaty, will shows hints of spice, burnt sugar and nuttiness, turns it a bit thicker tasting, fuller bodied. Although we enjoyed this best at lighter roasts, there are not many dark roast coffees that taste this complex making it wonderful light to dark roasting coffee.

Similar to it’s AA cousin, a great cup from light to dark. We preferred it at a nice medium roast, toned down the brightness a bit without burning out any flavor depth. A brighter cup with a medium to full body. Although this cup does have some acidic components, all in all, it would be considered a medium/low acidity Kenya, sometimes they are just teeth chattering. Starts with a lemony crispness, a little hint of red fruit, balances with a nice chocolate and herbal dark tone, just a speck of nuttiness in the aftertaste. A clean, balanced, and full flavored cup. Mexican Terruño Nayarita – El Cuareteño Fantástico Reserva – Washed Processed
Always one of our favorite Mexican coffees. Good from light to dark but our favorite was a medium roast. Medium to full bodied, medium to low acidity. Lighter roasting will promote a sweet citric edge balancing with a bit nutty undertones. It will pick up a hint of caramel after a couple days setup but risks keeping a little dry nutty tone if too light. Medium roasts are pretty bullet proof, full bodied with rich chocolaty notes, a little nuttiness and vanilla like spice in the aftertaste. A clean cup with just a hint of citric crispness upfront. Darker roasts pick up a bit of roastiness but it compliments the very chocolaty profile, thick with no real hints of brightness. A good coffee for stronger chocolate tones at darker roasts.

Great from light to dark. Light roasts will show great depth of flavor and produce a very clean cup. Some acidity, which brings lemony and floral tones to the front end of the tastes, balances them with a sweet edged nutty/malty undertone, hints of a vegetal spice. As one pushes the roast a little darker, the body increases, as the acidity and vegetal spice dissipated. Made for a very lovely daily drinker in the medium roast range; sweet, smooth & complex. Pushing the beans darker, the citric and floral acidity drops nicely to a crisp hint or none at all, the malty tones can turn quite robust as you approach or touch 2nd crack. Anything even into the medium roast range is pretty chocolaty and smooth with just a pinch of a spice note. Darker roasts get a bit fuller bodied and roasty with some nice smoky accents.

Peru Junin COOPAGRY Gr. 1 – Satipo Reserve – Washed Processed
A lower acidity, thicker and creamier daily drinker. Best from the medium to dark roasts. At medium roasts, the cup starts just a little citric, fairly low acidity only detectable at the lighter side of a medium roast, a hint of sweet soft fruit note if a dig a little, but mainly a pretty chocolaty cup profile with some nuttier accents. Lighter roasts one can find a hint of caramel if you get lucky, but risks a little herbal note if too light. A nice medium to borderline dark roast will make anyone happy and provide good balance and smooth chocolate tones, low acidity – a good daily drinker. Darker roasts into 2nd crack work well but burn out a bit of the sweetness and gets a little smoky, the more robust chocolaty factor sure compliments the toastier tones of the dark roasts.

A great daily drinking Peru! Best right around a medium roast but works well from light to dark. It stands out for being a very clean and sweet cup. At lighter roast levels it has some crisp acidity, not over the top but noticeable, gives a quick hit lemon and floral that will balance with nutty and chocolate like darker tones. Small hints of caramel and dried fruit will pop out with a little setup. At medium roast levels, you get more of a smooth easy drinking cup, less acidity with accentuated nutty/chocolate tones, a hint of spice in the aftertaste, provides the best balance of light/dark tones. Darker roasts are a little flat and roasty, but on the more neutral side, classic darker roast beans: smooth, rich and on the roasty chocolate side of things with a little nuttiness in the aftertaste.

New Crop Rwanda! This is a fully washed Bourbon from Nyamasheke, near Lake Kivu, where the cool, humid conditions influenced by the nearby Nyungwe forest and the region’s volcanic-influenced soils help produce clean, well-structured cups. It’s processed through the Jarama washing station network and typically dried on raised beds at high elevation (around 1700–1900 masl). At a medium roast you’ll usually get a sweet, clean profile with a nutty/chocolate base and a light citrus lift; roasted lighter it leans brighter and more fruit-forward (grape-like), and pushed darker it turns deeper and sweeter with more cocoa and caramelized sugar and less acidity.

Tanzania Northern FAQ Plus – Peaberry – Washed Processed
This Tanzania North FAQ Plus lot comes from northern Tanzania (Kilimanjaro area) and is produced mostly by smallholder farmers; it’s graded PB (peaberry), a natural mutation where the cherry develops one small, round seed instead of two, and it’s sorted separately (typically ~5–12% of the harvest). It’s a washed coffee grown at 1200–1900 masl, and the listed “variety” is a regional blend including Blue Mountain, Bourbon, Kilimanjaro, Luwiro, and other local types. In the cup you can expect a gentle almond-and-caramel sweetness up front, medium (sometimes slightly fuller) body, mild balanced acidity, and a shift toward floral notes; roasted a bit darker, it leans more into spice, chocolate, and cocoa with a smooth, lingering finish.

Coming from family farms organized through Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT) and is sourced from the regions of Ainaro, Ermera, and Liquiçá, grown at 800–1600 masl and washed then dried on raised beds. The listed variety is Timor Hybrid a naturally occurring Arabica × Robusta cross first identified in Timor in the 1920s, widely known for its rust resistance used in many Arabica breeding lines. In the cup it’s sweet, comforting, and clean, led by plum over a base of almond, caramel, and chocolate, with a smooth, well-rounded profile and gentle sweetness rather than sharp acidity. For roasting, it’s described as easy to work with: light-to-medium keeps the fruity sweetness while building caramel/nut tones, while darker roasts push it toward caramelized sugar and toast just watch development after first crack so you don’t lose the fruit and complexity.

Medium to dark roast beans & a great daily drinker! This cup is very thick and creamy, filled with semi-sweet chocolate and nutty tones. A very easy to drink coffee. A hint of soft fruit can be seen at the light to medium roasts but pretty faint, not super noticeable until the cup cools. A bit of peppery spice at the darker roasts with some complimenting roasty and smoky tones. Lighter roasts will show some lemony acidity and can accentuate the fruitiness of the cup but often will come off a bit too dry. These beans are more about the creamy fuller bodied and smooth chocolate and nutty tones which will come out from medium roasts and beyond.
