A wonderfully clean and semi-exotic Colombian, washed processed coffee, so not exotic by means of overly fruity or ferment, but picks up some spice notes not usually seen in Colombians. Versatile from light to dark, we thought best at the lighter roast levels. Crisp, clean, sweet, with a ton of flavor depth. The cup has a little fuller body and in mainly a nutty and chocolate like cup. Medium acidity, gives a little citric/fruit twist at lighte roast levels. Some unique tea like spice notes mainly in the aftertaste. Be sure to hit a medium to dark roast if you do not like a little crispness in the cup. Lighter roasts promote a sweeter more delicate cup, a touch of fruitiness among the citrus/floral, while a medium to dark roast accentuate the spice tones and turn the cup more semi-sweet bakers chocolate like.

Super light roasts risk a little grassy/herbal but it straightens out at a city+ (medium) and holds up as dark as you want to take it. Good from light to dark but we thought best at a strong medium to dark roast. A good bean to go after a rich and semi-exotic chocolate tone with some wonderful aromatics and a bit of spice. Light roasts are more citric and floral with wonderful aromatics and a sweet edged, a bit punchy in the citric department and contrasts with a bit of nutty/herbal/grassy undertones. Works well but needs a much longer setup time bring out smooth and clean tastes, sharp and grassy/herbal if drank too soon. Medium roasts will bring some lovely balance to the cup and provides a clean tasting brew without waiting a week to drink it. One starts seeing the chocolate aspect but will still pull some balance with the citric and floral. Less aromatic than the light roasts, but you can still tell you have a nice Ethiopian with one sniff. Darker roasts touching or into second crack are real robust, strong and semi-sweet, more bakers-chocolate like with tea like spice in the aftertaste.

We found this cup best from medium to dark roasts. Great balance, pronounced malt like and nutty tones with just a splash of a winey crispness to keep it interesting. A classic Guatemala with an inviting, straightforward profile. Lighter roasts have a silky mouthfeel and medium body, a pronounced floral/citric brightness, leans toward orange zest. The core is nutty, down the almond alley, supported by a chocolate/caramel underpinnings that round the cup. Good to let light roasts setup a bit longer or risk a little herbaceous tone. Medium to dark roasts bring out the larger body and reduce the brighter characteristics, making the dominate taste malty and nutty tones, medium roasts will have a pinch of citric for balance, dark roasts will not. A sweet cup until you touch second crack, then turns a bit bittersweet. Best tasted hot: at higher temperature the floral and citrus notes shine; as it cools they soften and the almond–chocolate side comes forward, keeping good sweetness and a comforting feel.

Lighter roasts will accentuate the lemony floral tones of the cup, the chocolaty factor will be just a hint but noticeable and smooth, a bit of nuttiness will linger in the aftertaste not present in further roast levels. Being a little cleaner, this cup is very good at light to medium roasts as well; sweet with a more nutty/caramel tone, can come off a little herbal too light so tread lightly. A little acidity but not enough to push folks away. A lovely daily drinking cup. Heavier bodied and lower acidity, semi-sweet hints of floral and caramel, balanced with a nice strong earthier chocolate note. Darker roasting makes for a pretty bold cup with some added smoky factors.

Many of the notes in the aroma come through in the flavor like walnuts and some smoke. There’s dark fruit, oak, licorice, and some vanilla spice, like a good dry red wine. Good from light to dark although we thought it best at a nice medium roast. Crisp tones, slight citrus/fruit note and a fuller bodied rustic chocolaty factor to balance it off. Sweet and clean, this is a stronger cup of a coffee! Just a bit of the classic Indo earthiness, I might link this coffee closer to an exotic Colombian than an Indo (which is way cool). Very nice rich chocolate tones (a little sweet malt/caramel as it cools) adds to the mix of delicate flavors present in this cup. A slight smoky aftertaste can be picked up at the darker roast points. This is a must try for anyone who likes a real full bodied complex cup of joe!

A very cool cup! Best medium to dark roasted but will hold lighter roasts much better than most Sumatra coffees. Lighter roasts have a little cool lemony acidity upfront, with some soft fruit tones giving it some jazz, balanced with a dry earthy chocolaty herbal factor with some incense like spice. As you push into the medium roasts, it will get fuller bodied with a creamy mouthfeel cutting out the more lemony floral tones, turns the cup much more chocolaty and gives depth to the exotic spice notes. Darker roasts will turn more stout like and semi-sweet. When roasting into 2nd crack one will add some cool roasty and smoky tones into the more bakers chocolaty cup profile.

Beautiful coffee, soft islandy acidity mixing with a cool caramel/nutty tone, little hints of soft fruit and a sweet edge. Light roasts (just after 1st crack) are pretty clean and tasty but more nutty, as one pushes darker the nuttiness turns a bit more caramel/chocolaty like but will mute up the more islandy floral/fruitiness. How much you like a sweet nutty tone will be the decider where to roast this one. Darker roasts add a lot of body and dark chocolate smokiness but burn out all the delicate soft fruit and acidity which pushed this cup well beyond average for JBM. This cups taste profile is along the same lines as the Flamstead operation with a bit less lemony acidity.

A very clean, exotic and balanced cup of coffee. Kenyan coffees are known for their acidity and spice tones; this cup hit the classic Kenyan cup profile on the head without being overwhelming like some (very balanced in its tones). Not quite sizzling but a very noticeable lemony floral tone upfront at the light to medium roast points balanced with some herbal spice and fading into a nice chocolaty tone that lingers on the tongue. Fuller bodied and a bit darker toned than most Kenyan beans. Light roasts will swing the balance towards the floral citric side, darker roasts more towards the jazzy bakers chocolate alley. Holds up into 2nd crack for you dark roast fans. Low acidity and strong bittersweet chocolate tones with the traditional Kenyan spice note that leaves a very smoky tone on the pallet.

A great cup from light to dark, but we think best at a solid medium roast. Light roasts will be pretty acidic, medium roasts smooth and balanced, darker roasts potent but bittersweet. This is an excellent classically bright Kenyan; super clean, sweet with good body. One can find all sorts of acidic like notes in this cup ranging from soft fruit to very floral citrus. All the wonderful lighter tones balance with a nice and rich chocolaty undertone, pretty potent, fades into some classic African spice on the tongue (tea like semi-vegetal). Turns pretty dark/bakers chocolate like into the darker roasts. Very fun cup with awesome flavor depth.

We found this cup best from medium to dark roasts. Medium roasts have a sweet and nutty tone, mixing with a pinch of crispness and semi-roasty chocolate factor. Creates a cool burnt sugar, or roasted caramel like tone. Medium bodied and lower acidity, very easy drinking coffee with a bit of uniqueness behind it. Very different from the Gesha offering, a fun contrast. Strong medium to dark roasts bring out some wonderful spice notes within the richer nutty & chocolate notes. A bit reminiscent of Indian coffee, but smoother and sweeter. A more potent brew on the roasty tasting side as you touch or go into second crack but all the tastes roll together nicely including some smokiness.

A great daily drinker from a medium to dark roast. A very chocolaty cup of coffee, fuller bodied with low acidity, with some nutty & herbal accents. Light to medium roasts are crisp & sweet: Hints of citric balance with a nutty & woody undertone, a pinch of herbal spice in the aftertaste. With a longer setup time, assuming not too lightly roasted, that woody edge tends to produce a bit of a caramel twist which is quite tasty. Although good at semi-lighter roasts, we really enjoyed the medium to dark roasts better, fuller bodied and creamy. Semi-sweet chocolate and nutty tones dominate the cup with just a pinch of an herbal note in the aftertaste, a little complimenting roasty/smoky note into second crack. Wonderful for classic espresso or for those who use a splash of milk or creamer.

Light roasts will show stronger citrus mixing with a nuttier darker tone with slightly herbal accents, small hint of caramel will show with a little longer setup. Could be a bit acidic for some, but presents nicely for those who like a little citric and a nuttier cup profile. Medium roasts smooth out the cup and move the darker tones to more along the chocolate like alley, far less noticeable citric tones. Likely the best roast for daily drinking, but will be personal preference. Will give great depth of flavor but may be a little sharp for some. Our favorite roast and a great everyday drinker was in the medium roast ballpark, builds more of a smooth and creamy cup with a sweet edge, reducing that perceived acidity to just a pinch. Silky smooth and clean tasting, fuller bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Lower acidity chocolaty cup with a sweet edge. We liked it best from a medium to dark roast, but with a little longer setup, light roast fans can find joy with these beans. Definitely a chocolaty cup profile with some cool nutty and herbal/spice accents. If you roast before 2nd crack, which is preferred, one can balance in some melon and fruit acidity into the mix which is a big plus to the depth of flavor. Cup starts sweet at lighter roasts but will turn semi-sweet as you pushing into medium or dark roasts.

Medium to dark roast beans & a great daily drinker! This cup is very thick and creamy, filled with semi-sweet chocolate and nutty tones. A very easy to drink coffee. A hint of soft fruit can be seen at the light to medium roasts but pretty faint, not super noticeable until the cup cools. A bit of peppery spice at the darker roasts with some complimenting roasty and smoky tones. Lighter roasts will show some lemony acidity and can accentuate the fruitiness of the cup but often will come off a bit too dry. These beans are more about the creamy fuller bodied and smooth chocolate and nutty tones which will come out from medium roasts and beyond.
