Tanzanian BCT Select Peaberry
Tanzanian peaberry is always high on our list for darker roast beans: rich and chocolaty cups with robust and unique spice notes. This one being fresh as can be works pretty well from light to dark, if too light it can get a little grassy/herbal, but a clean and balanced cup with just a little development past first crack, a city+ roast they would call it. Retains its cleanliness into the darker roast points. Lighter roasts are going to be more acidic, not quite like a Kenya but a pretty clear citric edge balancing with a little hint of chocolate. Hit the roast right and you will see a pinch of caramel sweetness with a longer setup, but get it a bit too light, will have an herbal edge. Medium to dark roasts are pretty bullet proof. Medium will still show a hint of acidity, darker will lose it all. Either roast level will be nice and chocolaty with some spice behind it. If your a cold brew fan, lighter roasts points were pretty awesome, no risk of herbal and it popped out the sweeter caramel note much easier, a lighter bodied and sweeter cup.

A sweeter cup for an Indo with malt, chocolate with a little traditional earthy terroir of the wet-hulled Indonesians. Fuller bodied, a little hint of acidity at a medium roast, a definite go to for our strong-medium or dark roasts here at Burman Coffee. Pulls some molasses undertones as ones pushes into second crack roasts. Hints of slight smoky tone at darker roast.

Sweet upfront with a hint of crispness balanced with a stronger toasted walnut/chocolaty undertone. A little hint of acidity at the medium roast point really creates a nicely balanced cup with a broad flavor profile. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Washed Gr. 2 – Banko Chelchele
Good from light to dark but we thought best at a strong medium to dark roast. A good bean to go after a rich and semi-exotic chocolate tone with some wonderful aromatics and a bit of spice. Light roasts are more citric and floral with wonderful aromatics and a sweet edged, a bit punchy in the citric department and contrasts with a bit of nutty/herbal/grassy undertones. Works well but needs a much longer setup time bring out smooth and clean tastes, sharp and grassy/herbal if drank too soon. Medium roasts will bring some lovely balance to the cup and provides a clean tasting brew without waiting a week to drink it. One starts seeing the chocolate aspect but will still pull some balance with the citric and floral. Less aromatic than the light roasts, but you can still tell you have a nice Ethiopian with one sniff. Darker roasts touching or into second crack are real robust, strong and semi-sweet, more bakers-chocolate like with tea like spice in the aftertaste.

New Crop Comsa! This cup is nice and chocolaty, lower acidity and medium bodied. A little sweeter edge to it except for super dark roasts. Besides a chocolaty factor one will get some herbaceous nutty/caramel/floral like tones at the medium to dark roast points, gives it some nice complimenting depth without being too exotic. We all thought it was at its best right around a full city – smooth without too much of a roasty note and great chocolaty tones.

The aroma is very nutty and sweet. There was a surprising hint of smoke on the palate. Full bodied and low acidity – this is a traditional tasting Brazil – thick, creamy, nutty and semi-sweet. At the darker roasts a very sweet first taste, almost a little fruity, and then quickly turns darker-toned with a bakers chocolate and slightly toasted walnut flavor. Great blend base for espresso or adding body with darker tones although many will love it as an single origin drinker.

Medium to dark roast beans & a great daily drinker! This cup is very thick and creamy, filled with semi-sweet chocolate and nutty tones. A very easy to drink coffee. A hint of soft fruit can be seen at the light to medium roasts but pretty faint, not super noticeable until the cup cools. A bit of peppery spice at the darker roasts with some complimenting roasty and smoky tones. Lighter roasts will show some lemony acidity and can accentuate the fruitiness of the cup but often will come off a bit too dry. These beans are more about the creamy fuller bodied and smooth chocolate and nutty tones which will come out from medium roasts and beyond.

A great clean decaf coffee! Good from light to dark. Lighter roasting will show a little lemony crispness, rare for a decaf. Sweeter edged with a little herbal chocolate contrast. Medium roasts cut out most of the lemony crispness and rid the cup of its herbal edge. Smooth and rich, medium bodied, with a more pronounced chocolate tone; a bit floral and sweet in the aromatics, adds to the drinking experience but doesn’t come through in the tastes. Darker roasts are robust and strong, semi-sweet and very chocolaty with a roasty edge.

It’s processed through the Jarama washing station network and typically dried on raised beds at high elevation (around 1700–1900 masl). The listed variety is Timor Hybrid a naturally occurring Arabica × Robusta cross first identified in Timor in the 1920s, widely known for its rust resistance used in many Arabica breeding lines. In the cup it’s sweet, comforting, and clean, led by plum over a base of almond, caramel, and chocolate, with a smooth, well-rounded profile and gentle sweetness rather than sharp acidity. A great daily drinking Peru! Best right around a medium roast but works well from light to dark. It stands out for being a very clean and sweet cup. At lighter roast levels it has some crisp acidity, not over the top but noticeable, gives a quick hit lemon and floral that will balance with nutty and chocolate like darker tones. Small hints of caramel and dried fruit will pop out with a little setup. At medium roast levels, you get more of a smooth easy drinking cup, less acidity with accentuated nutty/chocolate tones, a hint of spice in the aftertaste, provides the best balance of light/dark tones. Darker roasts are a little flat and roasty, but on the more neutral side, classic darker roast beans: smooth, rich and on the roasty chocolate side of things with a little nuttiness in the aftertaste.
