Burundi Premium JNP Kayanza – Incuti Washed
A lovely coffee from light to dark. Your personal tastes will dictate what level to roast these beans to, if in doubt, a nice medium roast provides the best balance and depth of flavors. Light roasts will have a lemony citric crispness balancing with a sweet edged nutty/caramel/chocolate/spice like undertone. Takes a longer setup for lighter roasts to shine but for those who like sweetness and brighter notes in coffee will enjoy the lighter roast levels. Medium roasts build the darker tones and mute a bunch of the citric, a chocolaty cup with a burnt sugar kick, just a pinch of crisp citric that will disappear as the coffee sets up. Hints of nuttiness and spice pop out more one can see a little hint of caramel. Darker roasts turn the cup more into a semi-sweet chocolate bomb with a little spice in the aftertaste, much flatter but very tasty with a splash of milk or for espresso/cold-brew.

A very fun & tasty African natural. To see it shine, keep it in the light to medium roast range, although it’s a tasty cup from light to dark. Light roasts themselves have a stronger lemony floral tone right upfront. For an African it would not be considered high acidity but will be clearly noticeable in the taste. Behind the brighter floral notes lies a nice semi-sweet stone-fruit tone, similar to cascara or to some, strawberry’ish. The fruit and floral will quickly fade into a more robust chocolate note with some traditional spice notes kicking in mostly in the aftertaste. Medium roasts will mute the floral/fruity tones to just a hint over-top of the more robust chocolate & spice darker tones. Still exotic due to the processing but promotes more traditional Burundi like tones the darker you roast. Great cup from light to dark! Smooth, sweet, rich and buttery textured. A very chocolaty cup with hints of floral acidity and a soft fruit tone. Overall, lower acidity and fuller bodied with some classic Colombian nutty tones in the aftertaste. A little spice in the cup creates wonderful depth of flavor. At lighter points you get some brighter and crisper tones, small hints of fruitiness combine with just a pinch of darker note, a balanced cup if you give it a longer setup, but can be a little bright if you drink it too soon. A very nice co-op production Tarrazu that follows the classic Costa terroir, floral acidity versus nutty and chocolaty tones. Best at medium to dark roasts, a lovely daily drinker. A good balance of flavors that can accommodate anyone’s personal tastes, dependent on roast level. Lighter roasts are brighter, sweeter and more floral, balanced with hints of dryer, nutty undertones. Medium roasts had the best balance, smooth with a slight chocolaty edge and pronounced nuttiness in the aftertaste, just a hint of crispness to the cup. Dark roasts turn fuller bodied and semi-sweet, accentuating the nutty and chocolate tones even more but will lose its floral and crisp sweeter edge.

A very nice light to dark roast decaf. Lighter roasts are sweeter and more delicate, a little unique spice with a bit of nuttiness and just a pinch of floral. Medium roasts are a smoother cup, a little sweet edge, nutty, with a touch of chocolate. Has a little floral overtone that makes it a bit interesting. Fuller bodied with a richer chocolate tone closer to 2nd crack. Some smokiness at second crack or into but retains its smooth and rich character. Decaf Mexican is always one of my favorite beans to get a nice and strong chocolaty note in the decafs. Lower acidity and fuller bodied, pretty hefty in its semi sweet bakers chocolate tone at fuller roasts.

Best from the lighter side of a medium roast to as dark as you want to go. A bit cleaner tasting but slightly less fruity than previous seasons. Lighter roasting presents some nice honey processed features: citric, floral, soft fruit with an almost oak/peat like finish, sweet & complex but does risk some underdeveloped tones if you nail it a little too light. Medium roasts were our favorite, still balanced and complex but will develop the traditional chocolate and smoky tones for which Dominican coffees are known for – to balance out those more exotic fruity and citric tones. Kayon Mountain has become a tradition around here, marks one of our favorite times of the year, new Ethiopian season! Beautiful coffee and screen.Clean, bright, sweet with a very diverse flavor set. Stone and darker fruit, citrus & floral, and spiced chocolate tones are the main flavors one can see in this cup, either accentuated or muted depending on roast level. Nice jammy body will be seen in the medium to borderline dark roast mark. Very dependent on roast – lighter roasting gives much more of the citrus, red-fruit with just a hint of a spicy chocolaty factor, a much dryer finish. Darker roasts produce much more of a bakers chocolate cup with a hint of a strawberry like fruit note and good sweetness, far less acidic. A very enjoyable cup from light to dark.

Hints of a black tea like spice and a soft fruit tone will pop out especially with some setup and as the cup cools. Medium to dark roasts will mellow the brightness considerably turning the cup darker toned and more about the spice notes and chocolaty factor. Smooth and easy drinking in the medium roast range while still maintaining hints of exotic acidity. Crisp, clean and exotic. Great aromatics: nothing like grinding a fresh Ethiopian with its floral, jasmine and spice notes to tickle your nose. Lighter roasts are filled with new crop acidity and floral notes, mostly citric but a little peachy soft fruit tone can be found. The balance of the cup comes from a semi-tea-like chocolate factor. I tend to think of it as chocolate spice notes but many tongues can pick up a little black tea note. Medium roasts have just a pinch of citric acidic, builds a thicker body and brings forth more of the chocolaty cup profile, reducing the acidity slightly. Darker roasts are always tasty for those who like fuller roasts. This is how they would traditionally serve these beans in Ethiopia. Almost a shame, for it loses the cool spice and lighter floral tone balance but equally as tasty if you like more chocolaty cups with some spice.Price: $8.29/lb - 7.09/lbPrice: $8.29 -

Smooth, rich, delicate and clean, a wonderful example of a top notch Guatemalan. The aroma has great sweet notes. Hazel and hickory nuts, caramel, and milk chocolate. The body is light/medium and has a very silky texture on the malty side. The aroma comes through in the taste to create a wonderful balance of tones. Medium to low acidity, the brightness reduces the darker you roast. The finish is very smooth and clean with a lingering sweetness.

A solid cup from light to dark, but for most drinking, a medium roast will be the way to go. Sweet with just a pinch of citric upfront, medium bodied, good mouthfeel, just a pinch of fruitiness and ends with a nice malty undertone. Lighter roast get a bit brighter and slightly more fruity but can risk a little grassy, medium roasts present great balance to the flavors and was very easy drinking, darker roasts retain a lot of sweetness and hefty malty tones, but will get pretty roasty/smoky. If drinking for drip/pour-over, medium roasts are where to go. If using for blending, espresso or cold brew, light or dark roasts can produce some really tasty results.

A nice clean, rich, and versatile coffee. Lighter roasting will come off clean and winy like a good Guatemalan should. A little higher acidity than average, balanced with some developing malt like tones. A bit acidic light roasted but easy to enjoy if you classically like lighter roasts. Blooms into a more traditional Guat. chocolaty cup as you push into the medium to dark roast levels. The darker you go the less winy and acidic the cup will taste. Around a medium roast, the perceived acidity drops and creates a rich, fuller bodied, chocolaty cup with a smooth and sweet edge. A hint of floral mixing it to keep it crisp. Dark roasts into second crack will work for you dark roast fans, a bit more stout like with low acidity with semi-sweet smoky/chocolate like notes.

Can be roasted from light to dark but our favorite was a nice medium roast. Lighter roasts: the acidity & floral tones are accentuated and will be the first tastes your tongue will notice, a pinch of an island fruit tone but pretty faint, balances with a little green-tea, chocolate & spice dark tone. From a medium roast on, the acidity is very gentle and balanced with a smooth to rough chocolaty cup profile, milk chocolate before 2nd crack, bakers chocolate and smoky into 2nd crack. Light to dark this is one tasty cup. Full of sweet and incredibly smooth nutty and chocolate like tones: a little hint of caramel/toffee, a little hint of floral/island acidity. Medium bodied cup with great mouthfeel and lower acidity. Lighter roasts are very delicate and mild, accentuating the nuttier tones. With a longer setup gives the best hints of caramel/toffee. Medium to dark roasts increase the strength of the cup leaning it more towards the chocolate/cocoa side of things, which might be wise if you traditionally like a more potent brew. Darker roasts are a bit roasty tasting, still very sweet, but is almost a shame when it loses its delicate edge. A great cup! Super clean in its cup characters. Very bright and somewhat fruity at the lighter roasts; citrus, floral and red fruit balanced with just hint of a herbal nutty/caramel factor. Medium roasts get more balanced, not as citric, building a bigger bodied darker tone. The citric turns a little grapefruit like and the nuttiness turns a bit more chocolaty, maintains a lot of depth between the acidity and herbal chocolate/nutty floral notes . Darker roasts get very strong and semi-sweet, think bakers chocolate with herbal accents. A little smoky and roasty but presents nicely for a more exotic dark roast.

Lower acidity cup but will show some floral characteristics at the lighter roast points. A little roasty/smoky tone into second crack but it will compliment the more chocolaty and nutty profile.

Good from light to dark, very different tasting dependent on roast level. If you are a very fruit forward natural fan, sticking in the light to medium roast level is recommended. Contrary to many naturals, these beans rock at the fuller roast levels as well, touching or into second crack produces a very lively cup, not super roasty with incredible depth of flavor and good balance between light and dark tones.

Higher acidity, fuller bodied with great depth to the flavors. Lighter roasts are a bit sizzling but also the most complex tasting; stronger citric/floral acidity comingle with a very sweet red fruit tone upfront, balancing with just a pinch of the classic Rwanda darker tones of herbal, spice and chocolate. Takes a little longer setup to bring out the small exotic hints in the tastes. Medium roasts build a much creamier cup profile, just a hint of crisp floral upfront that fades into a strawberry like fruitiness, balanced with strong dark semi-sweet dark chocolate like tone. Dark roasts themselves are still very lively cups but can come off a bit sour/bitter comparatively. They are fuller bodied accentuating the robust chocolate and spice notes but not a delicate cup like the light-medium roasts.

A wonderful light to medium roast coffee. Leans a bit more towards a washed processed coffee than natural. A very clean, sweet and delicate cup with medium to low acidity: chocolate, spice, tea and fruit tones comingle nicely at the different roast levels. Lighter roasts show just a small pinch of citric and fruit comingling with complex tea like undertones, a fuller body and sweeter edge. Medium roasts mute much of the tea like spice turning the cup more chocolaty and semi-sweet, hints of fruit as the cup cools but hardly noticeable while hot. Darker roasts are more of a semi-sweet chocolate bomb, could be a bit much without a splash of milk but works wonderfully for espresso or cold brew at the fuller roast levels.

Stand up beans good from light to dark, but we thought best at the fuller roast levels. Medium to full bodied, lower acidity, clean and chocolaty with some nice fruity overtones. Lighter roasts will have a little citric/floral tone with a sweet and herbal edge, a hint of soft fruit. Medium roasts get much more chocolaty and less herbal providing a balanced cup, works nicely for all taste buds; smooth and rich. A nice and clean taste, good from light to dark. Mostly these beans will appeal to medium-dark roast fans but being an exceptionally clean cup, it has some lovely balance and is quite tasty at lighter roasts. Similar to its Indonesian cousins (except washed processed), it gets real hefty into the dark roasts promoting smoky and chocolaty tones with stronger spice notes. Best at the light to medium roast level. Good bit of citrus and red fruit upfront balanced with a thicker chocolate and spice note. Light roasts get a very jazzy stronger citric tone, with just a hint of a dark tone balance. Floral and sweet edged, with an emphasis on the fruitiness of the cup. Medium roasting brings the best of both worlds, some soft fruit, some chocolate and spice: medium to full bodied and far less sharp than the lighter roasts, but also a bit less fruity. More of a chocolaty cup with fruity highlights. Dark roasts get even fuller bodied but burn out some sweetness, taste like semi-sweet chocolate on the roasty/smoky side, thick with a bit of spice in the aftertaste. A hint of fruitiness as the cup cools but hard to tell its natural processed roots at darker roasts.

A wonderful season for the Zambia washed. Good clean cup profile making it pretty tasty from light to dark roasts. We found the lighter side of a medium roast to be our favorite. Fuller bodied cup with a sweet lemony crispness balanced with a chocolaty dark tone, hints of nuttiness and spice in the aftertaste. Similar to a Rwanda/Burundi/Kenya but with a bit more body and less herbal spice. Lighter roasts accentuate the brighter more floral/fruity tones, a bit more showy of a cup with its brighter characteristics but not as chuggable, can pull a little herbal balance. If you cannot tolerate a bit of citric crispness, darker roasts are the way to go, mutes up most of the brighter cup features presenting a real big bodied, smoky, complex and very dark toned cup of coffee.Price: $8.79/lb - 7.59/lbPrice: $8.79
