A great clean decaf coffee! Good from light to dark. Lighter roasting will show a little lemony crispness, rare for a decaf. Sweeter edged with a little herbal chocolate contrast. Medium roasts cut out most of the lemony crispness and rid the cup of its herbal edge. Smooth and rich, medium bodied, with a more pronounced chocolate tone; a bit floral and sweet in the aromatics, adds to the drinking experience but doesn’t come through in the tastes. A great cup from light to dark, but we think best at a solid medium roast. Light roasts will be pretty acidic, medium roasts smooth and balanced, darker roasts potent but bittersweet. This is an excellent classically bright Kenyan; super clean, sweet with good body. One can find all sorts of acidic like notes in this cup ranging from soft fruit to very floral citrus. All the wonderful lighter tones balance with a nice and rich chocolaty undertone, pretty potent, fades into some classic African spice on the tongue (tea like semi-vegetal). Turns pretty dark/bakers chocolate like into the darker roasts. Very fun cup with awesome flavor depth.

A very clean, exotic and balanced cup of coffee. Kenyan coffees are known for their acidity and spice tones; this cup hit the classic Kenyan cup profile on the head without being overwhelming like some (very balanced in its tones). Not quite sizzling but a very noticeable lemony floral tone upfront at the light to medium roast points balanced with some herbal spice and fading into a nice chocolaty tone that lingers on the tongue. Fuller bodied and a bit darker toned than most Kenyan beans. Light roasts will swing the balance towards the floral citric side, darker roasts more towards the jazzy bakers chocolate alley. Holds up into 2nd crack for you dark roast fans. Low acidity and strong bittersweet chocolate tones with the traditional Kenyan spice note that leaves a very smoky tone on the pallet.

A great daily drinker from a medium to dark roast. A very chocolaty cup of coffee, fuller bodied with low acidity, with some nutty & herbal accents. Light to medium roasts are crisp & sweet: Hints of citric balance with a nutty & woody undertone, a pinch of herbal spice in the aftertaste. With a longer setup time, assuming not too lightly roasted, that woody edge tends to produce a bit of a caramel twist which is quite tasty. Although good at semi-lighter roasts, we really enjoyed the medium to dark roasts better, fuller bodied and creamy. Semi-sweet chocolate and nutty tones dominate the cup with just a pinch of an herbal note in the aftertaste, a little complimenting roasty/smoky note into second crack. Wonderful for classic espresso or for those who use a splash of milk or creamer.

Very fresh and tasty from light to dark roasts. Too see them shine, we do recommend a light to medium but there are reasons we can think of to take it darker. A complex, full flavored cup, which is why many think of Kenya as the top origin for high class beans. Lighter roasts are bright with stronger citric notes and hints of fruit, will pull a darker toned balance with a semi-herbal, green tea like component. Medium bodied, higher acidity with awesome depth of flavor. Medium roasts tame some of the bright characteristics, not as citric, promotes the body of the cup and turns the darker tones more chocolaty than herbal. Still retains good balance and depth but is not nearly as punchy with its tastes. Darker roasts around or into second crack will mute most of the citric and crisper tones, very strong and stout like semi-sweet chocolate notes, a hint of complimenting roasty/smoky that and will end with a bit of lingering spice in the aftertaste.

We thought it best from medium to dark roasts but clean and interesting enough to roast light to dark. Lighter Roasts (City to City+): Develops a bright acidity similar to lemon curd and a very clear sweetness of panela (unrefined cane sugar). A spicy cinnamon note appears, adding an interesting touch. Medium Roast (Full City): The body becomes more prominent, and notes of cocoa powder are more evident. The two combine for a hints of caramel, quite tasty for you light roast fans. Medium roasts are richer, more of a developed chocolaty tone and decently less nutty; mutes up the soury floral edge, retains a little hint of soft fruit as the cup cools. Fairly neutral tasting and very chuggable. Darker promotes a thicker body and introduces a slightly bitter contrast that works very well for espresso.

This is one of those coffees that feels good to buy and even better to drink. It comes from a region that many coffee lovers already adore: Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Specifically, it’s grown on small hillside plots in the highlands of the Cuchumatanes mountains near the town of Jacaltenango, by around 330 farming families from the Popti’, Mam, and Kanjobal indigenous groups. The cooperative behind this lot, Guaya’b, was founded in 1998 and proudly carries Organic, Fair Trade, and Smithsonian Bird-Friendly certifications the latter confirming their farms provide a safe haven for over 200 species of migratory birds.

Super light roasts risk a little grassy/herbal but it straightens out at a city+ (medium) and holds up as dark as you want to take it. The darker you go, the more body and edgy chocolate the cup will pick up, once you hit 2nd crack, expect some smoke and roasty tones to compliment the nutty/chocolaty factor.

Single-estate microlot with full traceability: for over three decades, Wolde Hirbe has tended his 10-acre farm near Jemjemo, a member of Adame Gorbota and, since 2012, the YCFCU Single Farmer Project, which enforces rigorous processing and regular technical visits support that improves prices and has helped stabilize income for his family. Set in Wenago (Gedeo), birthplace of “Yirgacheffe,” the coffee grows in shaded agroforestry with enset, protecting soil and moderating ripening. In the cup, expect melon-like fruit, lemony acidity, a silky, medium-leaning body, and a clean chocolate-and-nutty backbone, staying remarkably consistent from hot to cool. Easy to roast and versatile (with a bit more chaff), it shines at medium: go a touch lighter to highlight citrus and fruit, or a touch darker for a cocoa/dark-chocolate emphasis. Even pushed darker it largely preserves that silky medium body. A sweet, crisp, and polished Gedeb profile—expressive yet balanced, with producer-level transparency.

Most would call it a pretty sweet chocolaty cup with a bit of spice. Very smooth cupping this year with minimal herbal tones or earthiness. Medium bodied with a sweeter edge, a cup almost anyone would enjoy. Kind of like a Sumatra coffee without all the earthy funk. Best served in the medium to dark roast levels but some will find joy at lighter roast points with a longer setup.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Washed Gr. 2 – Banko Chelchele
Good from light to dark but we thought best at a strong medium to dark roast. A good bean to go after a rich and semi-exotic chocolate tone with some wonderful aromatics and a bit of spice. Light roasts are more citric and floral with wonderful aromatics and a sweet edged, a bit punchy in the citric department and contrasts with a bit of nutty/herbal/grassy undertones. Works well but needs a much longer setup time bring out smooth and clean tastes, sharp and grassy/herbal if drank too soon. Medium roasts will bring some lovely balance to the cup and provides a clean tasting brew without waiting a week to drink it. One starts seeing the chocolate aspect but will still pull some balance with the citric and floral. Less aromatic than the light roasts, but you can still tell you have a nice Ethiopian with one sniff. Darker roasts touching or into second crack are real robust, strong and semi-sweet, more bakers-chocolate like with tea like spice in the aftertaste.

A very clean and fresh batch from Selva Negra. A little citric & floral acidity upfront, balanced with nice complex nutty & malty undertones. Light roasts are going to be a little front loaded with the brighter characteristics, a higher rated cup meaning one will notice some decent crisp acidity at the light-medium roasts. Will give great depth of flavor but may be a little sharp for some. Our favorite roast and a great everyday drinker was in the medium roast ballpark, builds more of a smooth and creamy cup with a sweet edge, reducing that perceived acidity to just a pinch. A wonderful season for the Zambia washed. Good clean cup profile making it pretty tasty from light to dark roasts. We found the lighter side of a medium roast to be our favorite. Fuller bodied cup with a sweet lemony crispness balanced with a chocolaty dark tone, hints of nuttiness and spice in the aftertaste. Similar to a Rwanda/Burundi/Kenya but with a bit more body and less herbal spice. Lighter roasts accentuate the brighter more floral/fruity tones, a bit more showy of a cup with its brighter characteristics but not as chuggable, can pull a little herbal balance. If you cannot tolerate a bit of citric crispness, darker roasts are the way to go, mutes up most of the brighter cup features presenting a real big bodied, smoky, complex and very dark toned cup of coffee.Price:Price: Original price was: $8.79.$7.79Current price is: $7.79.$8.79/lb$7.79/lb -

Kayon Mountain has become a tradition around here, marks one of our favorite times of the year, new Ethiopian season! Beautiful coffee and screen.Clean, bright, sweet with a very diverse flavor set. Stone and darker fruit, citrus & floral, and spiced chocolate tones are the main flavors one can see in this cup, either accentuated or muted depending on roast level. Nice jammy body will be seen in the medium to borderline dark roast mark. Very dependent on roast – lighter roasting gives much more of the citrus, red-fruit with just a hint of a spicy chocolaty factor, a much dryer finish. Darker roasts produce much more of a bakers chocolate cup with a hint of a strawberry like fruit note and good sweetness, far less acidic. A very enjoyable cup from light to dark.

Generally considered a fuller roast coffee, can get a bit grassy and light roast levels but blossoms into chocolate, spice and earth, at fuller roast levels. A brighter, full flavored cup with great depth of flavor. Upon first sip, one will see a vibrant burst of lemon/orange citric comingling with a slight red fruit, quickly balanced by a creamy cocoa undertone with a little gentle black-tea like spice in the aftertaste. Underlying notes of roasted nuts and cocoa anchor the profile. As the cup cools the acidity softens and a deeper chocolate note swells, yet the honey aromatics persist, making every temperature stage deliciously consistent.
