This Bolivian FT. Org San Juan Coop green coffee is a washed lot from Caranavi (La Paz, Bolivia), an area in the Yungas region known for its humid, foggy climate, steep slopes, and difficult access. Much of the territory remains covered by natural forest, resulting in a predominance of small, well-managed farms. The San Juan Cooperative was founded in 1974 to support coffee-growing families using organic/chemical-free methods and holds Organic (1999) and Fair Trade (2000) certifications. Following a decline in productivity (2006–2017), they strengthened quality control and protocols, centralizing laboratory verification and separating coffees that do not meet export standards.

Decaffeinated Peru SWP is a decaffeinated green coffee from Peru, processed using the Mountain Water Process. It’s designed for a classic, easy-drinking cup: chocolatey, smooth, and clean, with low acidity and a medium body. The creamy chocolate notes with a touch of caramel are more pronounced at a medium roast, and while the acidity is low, floral tones are perceived at the start, adding a touch of vibrancy to the cup.

New Crop Comsa! This cup is nice and chocolaty, lower acidity and medium bodied. A little sweeter edge to it except for super dark roasts. Besides a chocolaty factor one will get some herbaceous nutty/caramel/floral like tones at the medium to dark roast points, gives it some nice complimenting depth without being too exotic. We all thought it was at its best right around a full city – smooth without too much of a roasty note and great chocolaty tones.

Its been a long time since we found a nice certified Sumatra coffee. This is a pretty classic but very tasty example, fresh as can be. If you don’t know, wet-hulled coffee out of Indonesia is a very unique processing job, leaves the beans far less pretty than American or African offerings. They bloom into beautiful cups at fuller roast levels, very low acidity with stronger earthy/chocolate/peat likes tones, cool unique spice notes linger on the tongue.
Wet-hulled (Giling Basah) lot from the Putra Tani Berkarya cooperative, grown between 1200 and 1400 MASL in the Gayo Highlands of Bener Meriah, Aceh. A traditional Sumatra cup with heavy body and low acidity, best from medium to dark. At medium it is balanced, with a soft winey acidity, sweet spice, and an earthy chocolaty backbone; at dark it turns smoky, full bodied, with bittersweet cocoa notes.

Works well light to dark but we liked it best at a standard medium roast. Smooth and sweet, lower acidity, a fuller body, good mouthfeel with rich malty tones. If you take it a little lighter, picks up some lemony/floral crispness, can bring out a little hint of caramel and slight floral overtones, but risks a little more grassy contrast versus malty. Darker gets a little roasty tasting but its a compliment to the sweeter malt like tones, works nicely for a sweet edged classic tasting dark roast bean.

A very clean and fresh batch from Selva Negra. A little citric & floral acidity upfront, balanced with nice complex nutty & malty undertones. Light roasts are going to be a little front loaded with the brighter characteristics, a higher rated cup meaning one will notice some decent crisp acidity at the light-medium roasts. Will give great depth of flavor but may be a little sharp for some. Our favorite roast and a great everyday drinker was in the medium roast ballpark, builds more of a smooth and creamy cup with a sweet edge, reducing that perceived acidity to just a pinch. Turns much stronger, a robust cup most would say, into the darker roasts but shined nicely; fuller bodied with strong malty and smoky tones, still a sweeter edge to it which darker roast fans will love.

A fully washed coffee, clean and juicy, with medium to syrupy body. A great daily drinking Peru! Best right around a medium roast but works well from light to dark. It stands out for being a very clean and sweet cup. At lighter roast levels it has some crisp acidity, not over the top but noticeable, gives a quick hit lemon and floral that will balance with nutty and chocolate like darker tones. Small hints of caramel and dried fruit will pop out with a little setup. At medium roast levels, you get more of a smooth easy drinking cup, less acidity with accentuated nutty/chocolate tones, a hint of spice in the aftertaste, provides the best balance of light/dark tones. Darker roasts are a little flat and roasty, but on the more neutral side, classic darker roast beans: smooth, rich and on the roasty chocolate side of things with a little nuttiness in the aftertaste.

This lot of Rwanda Dukunde Kawa Mbilima is truly special. It comes from small family farms located in the Gakenke district, very close to a natural gorilla habitat. In this region, cultivation is so artisanal that farm plots are not measured by hectares, but by the number of trees each family owns. The coffee is processed at the Musasa mill by the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. The most remarkable and beautiful aspect of this project is that more than 80% of its workforce is made up of women. By enjoying this cup, you are not only experiencing a coffee of the highest quality, but you are also directly supporting these female producers, who use their earnings to improve their standard of living through access to healthcare, investments in livestock, and the development of programs to protect the environment. An exceptional coffee with a real social impact.
