Guatemala 2023 COE Winning Lot #12 – Huehuetenango – El Amate Y Anexos – Borbon Washed
A lovely crazy clean Guatemalan coffee. Great from light to dark but keep it on the lighter side to see why its an award winning coffee. Great depth of flavor, well defined and tasty right @ first crack. Hints of more winey fruit with good body and a malty finish. Hints of caramel somewhere between the fruity aspect and the malty undertone with a little setup. The aromatics bring this cup to the next level, floral jasmine like with hints of spice.
Guatemala 2023 COE Winning Lot #16 – Huehuetenango – Bella Vista – Gesha Natural
Super clean, delicate and sweet, this is definitely one for you fruit forward fans and best served at the light-medium roast level. Hints of citric winy acidity upfront comingle with tons of floral and red fruit. Just the tiniest hint of a darker spice note. The aromatics hit you before the wonderful taste even hits the tongue, lets you know you have something special; jasmine and sweet, slightly fruity notes with some spice. Something only a stellar Gesha or Ethiopian can provide.
Jamaican Blue Mountain – Flamstead Estate – Gr. 1 Flat Bean
Balanced chocolate tones with a bit of raised island acidity. A nice medium roast leaves a cool little semi-sweet caramel/toffee note. Darker roasts are a bit more traditional with this bean and get pretty creamy smooth chocolaty tones with just a finishing hint of unique JBM island character.
Panama Premium Boquete – Mama Cata Estate – Geisha Washed “Toña”
This cup stands out even among a table full of the worlds best coffees. Lighter roasts are where this cup is best served, good clean acidity, very sweet and floral, a bit of jasmine especially in the aromatics with clearly noticeable and very clean stone fruit tones balanced with a bit of tea like spice. Really an amazing soft and refined fruit tone for a washed processed coffee. Wonderful how the cup breaks what most think of washed processed coffees. With those Geisha floral and spice notes popping right out even at light roast points, a cup you Geisha fans will not want to miss. If you are used to washed processed Geisha, keep in mind this coffee tastes almost like a super clean rich honey processed coffee, it is not dark toned and loaded with some bergamot like many washed Geishas.
Panama Premium Boquete – Finca Benedictus – Geisha Natural Processed
Hands down, best at a light roast. Pretty blasting floral acidity, not your normal lemon bomb, the acidity itself comes off a bit candied floral like and is balanced with a sweet dark tea spice tone, from the natural processing one gets just a pinch of a grape/orange fruitiness that will combine with all the other diverse flavors to give a hint of bergamot in the aftertaste. Unique attributes really only seen in the Geisha strain. Making these beans a perfect example of what a Geisha should taste like. The aromatics are similar to jasmine with a touch of fruit. Sweet, punchy, floral, fruit, jasmine, tea, bergamot… these beans are spot on.
