Guatemalan Premium Santa Rosa – Finca Vista Hermosa – Orange Pacamara Natural Processed

(1 customer review)

Best served light to medium roasted. Light roasts are very sweet and will showcase the fruity, floral and citric. Tastes will be mostly brighter acidic tones, a more potent cup. Clean & exotic but not much for darker toned contrast, it will be the preferred roast level for higher acidity fans. Although one has orange on the mind with the name, the fruitiness and acidity will produce a more orange like sparkle versus more traditional red fruits that many naturals get. Medium roasts are equally as nice and a bit tamer, generally where we would recommend roasting this one. Develops a richer mouthfeel and fuller body with some lovely darker toned balance. Still plenty of citric and fruit to keep the cup jazzy, but shouldn’t be too sour or frontloaded for most tongues.

Description

A stellar & unique single strain coffee. This is the highest rated out of the micro lots but comes at a premium. Orange Pacamara is a rarity and this lot was meticulously picked and processed. Only 150 pounds total was produced.

Although you may recognize the name Finca Vista Hermosa, this is not from the Martinez family, but from another wonderful coffee farmer on the other side of Guatemala, whose farm also has a very “beautiful view”. Santa Rosa is in Southern Guatemala, while Huehuetenango is North, almost on the Mexican border.

Fredy Orantes, who owns/operated this Finca Vista Hermosa has gained a well-earned reputation for meticulously processed coffees that encompass a wide swath of varieties. This is a naturally processed Orange Pacamara. A rare strain of coffee with awesome tastes. The first thing one will notice about this lot, and most Pacamara beans, they are giant. Very large beans especially in top lots like this one. Basically only Pacamara and Margogype will produce beans this big. A higher acidity coffee with an orange like fruitiness and wonderful balance with stronger chocolate and spice notes. This cup will check all the boxes for a new wave coffee fan.

Tasting Notes: Best served light to medium roasted.

Roasting Notes: Real big bean but easy to roast, even roasting and good from light to dark, darkens up quickly so make sure to watch for the expansion in size to mark first crack. Ideally, hit 1st crack, get a shade darker, than hit cooredl.

“Orange Pacamara” refers to a specific type of Pacamara coffee bean that is characterized by prominent citrus flavors, particularly tasting notes reminiscent of orange, often described as a zesty or juicy orange quality, alongside the typical complex flavor profile of a Pacamara bean which can include chocolate, raspberry, and cinnamon notes this variety is considered a specialty coffee with a unique flavor profile due to its pronounced orange characteristic.

The aroma before and after brewing reminded me of opening fresh cocoa pods. Roasted light-medium. A lot of strong flavors but everything balanced. Flavor reminiscent of cocoa fruit. I really enjoyed this. The cocoa fruit ties were the type of thing one imagines from Guatemala.
