New crop of the Takengon has arrived!
Indonesian Sumatra Takengon is sourced from the Jagong Mill and surrounding family-owned farms located in the Takengon and Atu Lintang coffee region of Aceh province on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Irham Junus owns and operates the Jagong Mill with his son, Andi and daughter, Ina. The Junus family has focused on meticulous ripe cherry selection resulting in something truly unique in Sumatra. The Junus family also has full control of the processing and milling right up to the final export stage, avoiding the long and convoluted supply lines that can compromise Sumatran quality.
Tasting Notes:
Big bodied with a creamy mouth feel. Low acidity with very chocolaty and earthy (complex like whiskey or scotch) tones being very predominant. Depending on roast, one can add a nice smoky profile by touching or going into 2nd crack. Lighter and one gets a much smoother and sweeter cup with almost a little soft fruit tone but risks some grassyness.
Roasting Notes:
Medium to dark roast beans. Due to the processing (wet-hulled) the beans will roast a bit uneven which makes lighter roasting a bit tricky with an end result of pretty grassy tasting coffee. Medium roast is lovely and developed while maintaining a fairly mellow and smooth cup. Dark roasts will turn strong and edgy filled with bakers chocolate and smoky tones.
