Hawaiian 100% Kona – Arianna Farms Estate Grade

$34.99

A very smooth easy going cup. A bit lower acidity with wonder nutty and chocolaty tones. A little island floral aspect and hints of soft fruit tones mixing in. Lighter roasts are not recommended, they can be a much dryer and less complex cup. Medium to dark roasts are where this cup will shine. Roasts touching 2nd crack will get a bit bakers chocolaty, adds some strength to the cup which will be nice for some but not as smooth and delicate as a nice medium roast.

Description

Well our Kona connections did it again. A wonderful bean from a award winning family farm. Arianna farms is new to us but not new to the premium coffee game.

Why is Kona so expensive? Hand picked premium coffees from the good ol U.S.A. Coffees like Mauigrown or Kauai Coffee tend to use machine harvesting and sorting to achieve wonderful cups and keep the prices down but Kona is all hand done, folks out in the fields everyday only picking the ripest of cherries. Processed by hand in small batches.

Tasting Notes: A very smooth easy going cup.

Roasting Notes: Easy to roast, a big bean screen and low chaff. Error your roast level a little darker than lighter for a wonderful cup. Too light and it doesn’t develop the tasty cup profile.

Arianna Farms ‘Ono Kona Coffee
is their lush 50 acre Kona Coffee farm stretching across the verdant slopes of Hualalai Volcano. Their family farm is on the original “Kona Coffee Belt”, the historic Mamalahoa Highway , where Kona coffee first began. Sunny mornings and misty afternoons, with warm tropical showers and gentle ocean breezes, provide the ideal climate for growing Kona Coffee, one of the most exclusive coffees in the world.

The Name.  They love the farm and coffee so much, they named them after their daughter, Arianna. To show their deep respect for their Hawaiian forebears, they wanted to have a Hawaiian word in their name. they thought ‘Ono, which is Hawaiian for “delicious”, was perfect!

Their slogan. “From our Farm to your Cup.”  As Arianna says, “We work very hard to make the best possible coffee at each step, literally from the ground up!” It reflects our philosophy to strive for the best from farm to cup. Everything you taste in the cup begins at the farm!

Ecology and Sustainable Agriculture.  These are essential to how they farm, to help preserve the label’s idyllic Hawaiian paradise. That means taking care of the land and the trees the best way they can! Their farm co-sponsored a workshop with the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service on Sustainable Agriculture, and we are committed to green practices.

Native Hawaiian Plant and Tree Restoration Program.  For several years, they have been planting natives to restore these to the land. They hope that their farm will one day be a link in an entire ‘chain’ to create a ‘bird corridor’ to higher elevations where native birds now dwell so that they will return lower elevations. And in the meantime, they create a wonderful tree habitat for any bird who will like to stay!
