Colombian Popayan Supremo

(3 customer reviews)

Great Buy!
A very fresh and classic Colombian coffee! Best from medium to dark roasted. The aroma of this coffee is very nice; sweet with with a little spice & floral notes. A stronger fuller bodied toasted walnut and chocolaty undertone. A little hint of acidity at the medium roast point or lighter but all in all a low acidity offering, before second crack creates a nicely balanced cup with a broad flavor profile. Touching 2nd crack builds some body and will add some smoky and roasty notes that can compliment the classic Colombian profile.

Description

Supremo is Colombia’s top export grade- not taste related, basically means larger sized beans; containes screen size 17 and 18. This is versus an excelso grade coffee, which is screen 15/16.

Colombia Popayan Supremo is sourced from family-owned farms located in the municipality of Popayán within the department of Cauca, Colombia. On average, each producer cultivates their coffee on less than 5 acres of land. Coffee producers use their own micro-mill to process harvested cherries, which allows for meticulous care in depulping, fermenting, and drying the coffee. Expocafé, an exporter dedicated to supporting small producers, collaborates with these producers improving their access to international markets and establishing higher earnings.

Roasting Notes:
This bean is very versatile when it comes to roasting; good from lighter side of medium to as dark as you want to go. Main recommendation would be in the medium ballpark, smooth and accommodating to almost everyone. Be sure to try different roast points for it will greatly vary what flavors are accentuated.

I enjoyed roasting this bean so much! The least amount of chaff of any bean I’ve ever roasted. I will say also as the description states, it is very versatile in all roast points from city to vienna/Light French. Definitely a great all around bean.

I really enjoy this coffee and find myself going back to it for taste, ease of roast, and overall value. There are some excellent Costa Rican, Nicaraguan,Guatemalan coffees from specialty farms but I always come back to Colombian Supremo for my everyday favorite. Roasting could not be any easier in my Behmor and I’ll easily go through a pound a week. Just a great versatile bean.

I’m new to roasting and still experimenting with various coffees on my Freshroast SR800 with extent extension tube. This coffee is by far my favorite: rich, full bodied, sweet with delicious chocolate and nutty notes. Looking forward to Burman getting this back in stock.
