Indian Mysore Nuggets has been a favorite of Burman Coffee and customers for many years and this crop does not disappoint. The aroma is nutty, woody, and some slight smokiness. Many of the notes in the aroma come through in the flavor like walnuts and some smoke. There’s dark fruit, oak, licorice, and some vanilla spice, like a good dry red wine. The finish has a subdued brightness to it with just hints of lemon zest at lighter roast points. The body is medium to full depending on roast and brew. There’s a reason people keep coming back to this bean. It’s a smooth all around great stronger cup of coffee.

A very rich, strong and smooth cup. A cousin to Sumatra or Sulawesi coffee; Blue Moon always is a bit smoother without as much peaty earthiness, or swampy fruit. A sweeter cup for an Indo with malt, chocolate with a little traditional earthy terroir of the wet-hulled Indonesians. Fuller bodied, a little hint of acidity at a medium roast, a definite go to for our strong-medium or dark roasts here at Burman Coffee. Pulls some molasses undertones as ones pushes into second crack roasts. Hints of slight smoky tone at darker roast.

Very fermenty/fruity, lower acidity cup with good body. A wild old world natural processed good from light to dark. A beautiful tasting bean this season: slightly fruitier but still balances with traditional Indonesian character. Hints of acidity with stronger fruitiness at lighter roasts, strong fruit/oak tones on a more nutty/earthy/chocolaty profile at darker roast points. No missing the wild side in this cup. Medium roasts are where one should shoot for their first roast, mutes some nutty tones and pronounces the chocolaty factor for some balance, still plenty of wild fruity natural processed tones in the cup. Dark roasts will introduce some smoky accents but retain great sweetness. Tasty from medium to dark. We preferred it a bit on the darker side. Lighter roasting is wild and decently fruit forward, sweet with a little acidity upfront; winy and brandy like with some lingering dry nutty/earthy tones, a bit of floral in the aftertaste, good but not chocolaty enough for us. Medium roasts mellow the cup a bit, turning it more chocolaty, fuller bodied and refining the fruitiness, making it a cup everyone will love, not just natural processed fans. Reminiscent of a nice Yemen Mokka but a bit more brandy like. Smooth and easy drinking. Dark roasts worked exceptionally well. Chocolaty but not overly roasty, sweet with just a pinch of fruit in the aftertaste. A great cup from light to dark: a clean, rich and smooth cup. To see it shine and differentiate itself from normal Indonesians, keep it in the light to medium roast ballpark. Just a hint of brightness upfront, sugarcane like sweetness, good body with a chocolate like lingering aftertaste. It does have a little earthy terroir, but is almost more playing on some spice notes than traditional Indonesian “muddiness”. Darker roasts are pretty hefty cups, still overly sweet but more simple in its taste, chocolate and spice like with some complimenting roasty notes. A very cool cup! Best medium to dark roasted but will hold lighter roasts much better than most Sumatra coffees. Lighter roasts have a little cool lemony acidity upfront, with some soft fruit tones giving it some jazz, balanced with a dry earthy chocolaty herbal factor with some incense like spice. As you push into the medium roasts, it will get fuller bodied with a creamy mouthfeel cutting out the more lemony floral tones, turns the cup much more chocolaty and gives depth to the exotic spice notes. Darker roasts will turn more stout like and semi-sweet. A very nice fresh crop arrival. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel, low acidity and spot on tastes from a traditional Mandheling Sumatra; peat moss, smoky, chocolaty, fuller bodied and strong. A clean enough cup to get a decent medium roast, gives a smoother mouthfeel and has a bit of sweetness upfront, darker roasts will turn thicker but also edgier and promote the smokier semi-sweet side of the profile.

A nice tasting coffee from light to dark. We thought it best right around a medium roast for daily drinking but depending on what you like, holds up well lighter or darker. Light roasts one can see the linkage to Kenya; citric and floral upfront, a sweet edge, thicker chocolate/spice undertones, hints of caramel with a little setup in the aftertaste. Not as punchy as most Kenyan offerings, but along the same line of tastes. Medium roasts really mellow the cup. Smooth most would say, a bit more neutral with just a hint of the floral and spice seen at the lighter roasts. Reminded us of a cross between the Mysore Nuggets and a nice Costa Rican coffee. Great for daily drinking. Lighter roasts will show some nice clean lemony floral acidity but do not fully develop the nice robust chocolaty factor, interestingly enough, one gets a bit of African herbal/spice in the cup at the lighter roasts. Medium roasts are where we thought it shined, just a small hint of citric sweetness upfront with a good balance of spicy chocolate notes, unique spice, more like the Indian coffees. Darker roasts get more like the Dominican with strong bakers chocolate and smoky tones, a hefty cup with very low acidity.

A nice and clean taste, good from light to dark. Mostly these beans will appeal to medium-dark roast fans but being an exceptionally clean cup, it has some lovely balance and is quite tasty at lighter roasts. Similar to its Indonesian cousins (except washed processed), it gets real hefty into the dark roasts promoting smoky and chocolaty tones with stronger spice notes. Lighter roasting it is more delicate and floral, slightly fruity with some detectable lemony crispness, sweet edged, medium bodied with hints of a chocolaty factor.
