A cool cup from medium to dark. There are some sweet island floral tones upfront at the lighter roasts, a sweet edge with unique spice; somewhere between a woody cinnamon to more peppery/clove. Wonderful aromatics accompany lighter roasts but could be a little too grassy/sharp for some. Medium roasts are more chocolaty, balancing with the spice nicely, less woody, more bold semi-sweet clove like spice. Great from light to dark but most would consider it a light to medium roast coffee to see it shine. We couldn’t find a roast level or curve we didn’t like; a complex & chocolaty coffee. Lighter roasts will have a crisp lemony/floral acidity, a hint of soft fruit, balanced with a chocolate and spice darker tone; sweet edged, winy, and floral. A cup bound to impress almost every coffee fan. Medium roasts mellow the citric acidity promoting a rich, smooth & chocolate cup with some hints of classic African spice. We thought best served in the medium roast range, but tasty from light to dark. A very sweet cup at any roast point. Lighter roasts have some stronger citric/floral acidity, a little hint of a grape-skin like fruitiness and a spiced (herbal) chocolate undertone. Medium roasts build a much creamier cup profile, just a hint of crisp floral upfront that fades into a strawberry like fruitiness, balanced with a spicier chocolate dark tone. A very fresh and tasty African. Enjoyable at any roast level; medium to dark roast was our favorite. Medium roast points provide a smooth cup on the nutty/chocolaty side, sweet tea flavors and a hint of citric. A little herbal spice lingers in the aftertaste but very mild comparatively to most Africans. Darker roasts add complimenting roasty notes, a sweet burnt sugar and chocolaty cup that is jazzed up with a little spice, lower acidity and a fuller body. Best at a medium to dark roast: bigger bodied and darker toned. Lighter roasts will show some nice clean lemony floral acidity but do not fully develop the nice robust chocolaty factor, interestingly enough, one gets a bit of African herbal/spice in the cup at the lighter roasts. Medium roasts are where we thought it shined, just a small hint of citric sweetness upfront with a good balance of spicy chocolate notes, unique spice, more like the Indian coffees. Darker roasts get more like the Dominican with strong bakers chocolate and smoky tones, a hefty cup with very low acidity.

A nice and clean taste, good from light to dark. Mostly these beans will appeal to medium-dark roast fans but being an exceptionally clean cup, it has some lovely balance and is quite tasty at lighter roasts. Similar to its Indonesian cousins (except washed processed), it gets real hefty into the dark roasts promoting smoky and chocolaty tones with stronger spice notes. Lighter roasting it is more delicate and floral, slightly fruity with some detectable lemony crispness, sweet edged, medium bodied with hints of a chocolaty factor.

Yemen Mocca Khulani – Pearl of Tehama
A wonderful old world natural filled with rustic chocolate, spice and hints of fruitiness. The cup is lower acidity with good body and mouthfeel. Yemen coffees are the rare cup where you can occasionally see a “banana” like fruit tone – don’t worry though, its a little bit of a reach for banana, its not like eating a banana or banana flavored coffee, although with developed tongue, most can pick it up. Red fruit and bakers chocolate are the dominate tones – fruit is accentuated with lighter roasts, chocolaty with darker roasts. A lovely super complex old world natural.
