Ethiopian Sidama – Cafe Kreyol – Sweet Lily – Washed Processed

(1 customer review)

Regular Price $8.39/lb
A wonderful high rated cup best served at the light to medium roast level. Very sweet, floral and delicate, this cup produces some awesome jasmine like aromatics that come through as hints in the taste. Only Ethiopians and real high end Geisha coffees achieve this; most will love it, a little tea like for sure but a wonderfully complex and exotic attribute. Light roasts are a bit higher acidity and more front loaded with floral and soft fruit tones, a little lemony and peachy with just a small pinch of a darker tone popping out. Medium roast very nicely balanced and bring an easier to drink all day cup, but slightly less exotic. Dark roasts are tasty but burn out the aromatics and soft fruit tones leaving a thicker more chocolaty spice noted cup with some smoky accents.

Description

This Ethiopian coffee comes from the Halo Barti Cooperative, located in the Southern Nations and Nationality and Peoples region (SNNP) of Ethiopia. With farms on elevations between 2100 and 2200 m ASL, this region is known for some of the best coffee in the world.

Although a Cafe Kreyol coffee, this is not a project coffee, this is a beautiful high rated top grade Ethiopian coffee from a more renowned operation. His standards stick with this source but you can expect a very clean, nicely prepped coffee!

Tasting Notes: A wonderful high rated cup best served at the light to medium roast level.

Roasting Notes: Medium chaff and even roasting, keep it light to medium and for most, a quicker roast will leave a tastier cup, promote those lovely aromatics and crisp sweeter tones. Drag it out too much and it can burn out a lot of the exotic tones. If you shoot right after first crack, a little longer roast will not hurt and help insure a clean cup.  If a little too sharp tasting for you, a couple extra day setup really helps smooth out the cup.

Cafe Kreyol goes into some of the most impoverished and troubled areas that are within prime coffee growing territory, organizes farmers, teaches how to correctly process beans, guarantees purchase of the beans at way above market prices ensuring it goes directly to the farmers and strives to really turn around some of the more troubled areas, putting people to work at well above average wages and ensuring future livelihoods.

Joey, the head of Cafe Kreyol, even strives for his US employees the above statement. He finds the hardest working individuals with great work ethics that for one reason or another have really been put down with employment and troubled times to help them recover and build a resume while also being able to help others.

One can feel really good about supporting any of Cafe Kreyol’s projects and for the most part – really tasty coffees as well.

Overall a delicious beautiful cup. I roasted into FC and pulled it at 413F as a light roast. I may go 30 seconds longer but let it degas for 48 hours, very nice Ethiopian.
