Panama Premium Boquete – Finca Nuguo – Washed Geisha Top Lot

$32.00

A beautiful Geisha top lot. This cup has a lot of layers of complexity which will mostly be shown off at the light to medium roast level. Lots of floral fruity notes with layers of spice ranging from jasmine to bergamot balanced with a sweeter Panamanian malty tone. Real light roasts are strong with the acidity and will be very floral and front loaded hiding some of the delicate soft fruit tones, they tend to pop out with a little setup, wonderful aromatics but a little frontloaded with the acidity. City + to Full City roasts are the sweet spot, light/medium to strong/medium.

Description

Very seldom do we see coffees this special but boy, what a price tag to follow. All in all, there are worse ways to spend your money than on a super unique crazy high rated pound of coffee. Here at Burman Coffee, we are always looking for a deal, even on coffees this special. Sister chops to these beans with the same care and love from the farmer auctioned off for over $65/lb!

We feel very honored our buddy Keith Pech of Damarli Estate and his good friend Jose David Garrido saved us some of their best coffees this season!

Finca Nuguo is a very top notch award winning farm that very seldom makes it to the US. Located in some of the best growing territory in Panama, one of Jose’s more boutique farms (he owns Garrido Estate and Mama Cata as well as some other smaller fields).  Some of the biggest names in Panama coffee are also located in this prime territory, Hacienda Esmeralda, Elida Estate and La Jones are all his neighbors.  Since his coffee is mostly obtained by foreign markets, many in the US have not heard the name Finca Nuguo before unless they are watching the coffee competitions.

Starting about 10 years ago, Jose planted Finca Nuguo with only Geisha coffee after his great success with Mama Cata and the Geisha strain. Jose had 3 of his coffees place in the Best of Panama, including a chop of his Panama Mokka which went for $142/lb! Jose’s operations know how to grow/process some of the world’s best coffee.

Tasting Notes: A beautiful Geisha top lot. Just the aromatics of these beans/brew will let you know this is something special.

Roasting Notes: Fairly easy to roast, awesome screen. A little chaff heavy compared to a normal washed processed but still lower than most natural processed coffees. Will show some splotchy character at the lighter roast points. We liked it best at a medium roast, a little development past first crack, build better balance and mutes up just enough acidity to bring forth a more exotic set of tones. Although 24 hour setup in key, we think these best drank within the first week after roasting.
