Kenya Kirinyaga AA – Faith Estate – Top Lot

(1 customer review)

Lighter roasts and where this cup will shine. Tasty at almost any roast level but too dark will burn out the exotic tones that one is paying up for. Traditional light roasts are where one will see the acidic feature set that Kenyans are known for; citrus, floral and soft fruit will be the dominate tones with just hints of spice notes in the aftertaste. Wonderfully clean cup, so very little grassy or muddy tones at those light roasts, could be too acidic and exotic for some. A medium roast produces a very nice daily drinker, acidity mellows out greatly and a stronger chocolaty cup profile is seen; hints of soft fruit balancing with chocolaty spice. Darker roasts get a bit rough (edgy) and very strong, filled with potent semi-semi sweet dark tones and smokiness. The spice still pops right out differentiating it from most Central or South American coffees.

Description

A rare offering, even for boutique premium Kenyans. A single farm, female owned and fully traceable; how cool! Even better, this cup is amazingly clean and very highly rated, strictly large beans and a very tasty treat.

With its high rating and cleanliness of tones, this is a delicate cup. If your looking for a very punchy cup like many classic Kenyans, look to the AB lot. This is smooth, delicate and exotic. Some acidity but not face puckering.

Tasting Notes: Lighter roasts and where this cup will shine. Roasting Notes: An easy bean to roast. We recommend keeping it a bit on the lighter spectrum for roasting. If you tend to like more acidic coffees, a city to city+ roast will be the way to go. If you are not an acidity fan, push the roast a bit closer to 2nd crack than first. A longer set up time is critical for those looking for smooth and exotic. Between the acidity and freshness of roast, this cup can come out a bit front loaded (full of lighter brighter tones) until it mellows.

Kirinyaga coffee always holds a special place in my heart. My earliest coffee memories involved Kirinyaga coffee. Garry (well before Burman Coffee was in existence) was always a coffee head, I remember helping my mother make him pour overs of his favorite brew when I was only a couple feet tall. Golden Kirinyaga coffee from Victor Allen was his premium special coffee, not an everyday item, but one for special occasions. Even back then Kenyans were very expensive and rarer coffees. I remember the first fathers day I was actual able to buy him something myself from saved money, it was a bag of Golden Kirinyaga coffee.

If you’re looking for a bright coffee this is it! Roasted to first crack really brings out the citrus flavors. Very floral. Great aftertaste as well. As the cup cools it gets sweeter. One of the best I’ve had. Highly recommended for people that like light roasts.
