Guatemalan Premium Huehuetenango – Finca Vista Hermosa

Our favorite Guatemalan is back in action with a new crop. A slight warning, only 5 bags for the season. FVH will not last with its fan base. Pricing is crazy for all of our direct Guatemalans including FVH, peak market pricing was right at Guatemalan harvest time but they are stellar cups from incredible farmers and still and affordable luxury, especially at this intro pricing. From the remote mountains of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, comes this exceptional lot from our long-time friend and partner, Edwin Martinez. Finca Vista Hermosa is a pillar of our Guatemalan offering, and this lot shines with sweet, winy, malty and nutty centered notes. An easy-drinking, “chuggable” cup as some would say, notably balanced coffee that maintains a clean structure.

Original price was: $10.99.Current price is: $9.79.

Flavor Profile

Winy • Malty • Nutty

A tasty mix of tones, great from light to dark. The cup profile is mostly down the malty side but these beans have some awesome jazz. Medium roasting really pulls together a tasty treat but you can take it lighter or darker depending on personal taste preference. Hints of floral mixing with smooth nutty & malty features. Will show some winy citric and fruit acidity in the light to medium roast spectrum but all in all a medium to low acidity brew with a medium body. Smooth, clean and sweet edged, a cup we are more than willing to drink all day. Guatemalans almost always hold dark roasts nicely for adding a little sweet malty note to the smoky and roasty tones is a tasty mix.

Roast Notes

A Dense, Versatile Huehue. Classic

Easy to roast, being a hand crafted lot by Edwin himself, you can see a little variance in color but it is small, putting this in the easy to roast category. Medium to low chaff. If you do not have a personal roast level preference, try it first at a nice medium roast.

OUR DIRECT RELATIONSHIP

A Partnership Forged Over Years

Our connection with Edwin Martinez and Finca Vista Hermosa isn’t new; it’s a direct-trade partnership we’ve proudly cultivated for more than a decade. We consider Edwin not only a producer but a friend. This long-term relationship is built on mutual trust and a shared passion for exceptional coffee.

We’ve had the privilege of visiting Finca Vista Hermosa in person, walking its “impossible slopes,” and seeing first-hand the dedication Edwin and his team put into every harvest. This trust gives us priority access to standout lots like this one, ensuring quality and consistency you simply can’t find on the open market.

THE PRODUCER & THE FARM

Finca Vista Hermosa

Located in the heart of the Huehuetenango region, the farm was started by Edwin’s grandfather, Juan Martinez, in the 1950s. Edwin, a third-generation agronomist, has taken this legacy to new heights, combining traditional wisdom with a modern focus on specialty coffee.

The farm itself is a sight to behold, about eight hours by car from Guatemala City in rugged, remote mountains. Coffee plantings, growing at elevations up to 1,800 meters, cling to incredibly steep hillsides. This “impossible terrain” creates unique microclimates and promotes slow cherry maturation, resulting in a denser, sweeter, more complex bean.

PROCESSING & QUALITY

Meticulous Control from Cherry to Patio

One key to FVH’s quality is its on-farm wet mill. This gives Edwin full control over every step of processing. Cherries are hand-selected at peak ripeness and processed meticulously. This lot is a classic washed, fermented for 24–36 hours to develop its clean, bright flavor profile, then carefully sun-dried on patios.

While this specific lot focuses on the classic Bourbon and Caturra varieties, the farm also grows Catuai and Pacamara, demonstrating Edwin’s dedication to diversity and agronomic excellence.

IMPACT & COMMUNITY

Beyond Coffee

Finca Vista Hermosa is a pillar in its local community. The farm provides stable employment for many families in this remote region. True to his commitment to his people, Edwin also provides housing and even runs a school on the farm for workers’ children, ensuring the next generation has access to education. Our partnership directly supports these efforts, making every cup even more meaningful.
