Guatemalan BCT Select Premium Captzin Blend

$5.65

Basically you have lots of folks in prime but very remote coffee growing areas, who have no way of effectively producing or processing top notch lots. They have the trees and farming expertise but the processing end for top lots is very pricey and usually they end up selling the fruit to a large mill for under market prices. Not these beans, this is an example of a farmer group that has come together to get around the hurdle of processing top notch lots and gathering an exportable high end product by banding together.

Description

A very cool offering from our Guatemalan coffee friends Edwin and Blake (Guatemalan Finca VIsta Hermosa). For this offering they started working with a small holder group.

ASPROGUATE is an organization that represents more than 1,900 small producers from the regions of Acatenango, San Martin Jilotepeque, Coban and Atitlan. Its purpose is to responsibly transfer benefits to sustainable value chain coffee producers. In this area of Guatemala, many husbands leave to work in other areas or countries and send money back to their families, so the farms represented are women owned farms.

Small holder coffee can be some of the tastiest around, although not traceable to a specific farm, when the production methods are insured and the farmers are owners in the organization it has nothing but positive benefits for everyone involved.

Tasting Notes: A good tasting coffee that you can also feel very good about supporting. Classic malty factor that has come to represent nice Guatemalan coffees. A bit fuller bodied and pretty low acidity, very semi-sweet tones with just a hint of floral upfront at the lighter roast points.

Roasting Notes: Very easy to roast and good medium to dark roast beans in its profile. This cup gets very full bodied at those darker roast points, much mellower when roasted lighter. A fun one to roast a bit lighter and darker to create a single bean “blend”.
