Kenya Premium Embu – Kirimiri Factory & FCS – Peaberry

Low Stock Blowout! Only 19 pounds left
A good cup from light to dark. Smooth but on the stronger side. Lighter roasts are crisp and clean with some delicate lemony floral tones upfront that quickly get dominated by stronger chocolate and spice notes. Not overdone with the spice in this cup but you will not be able to miss it comparatively to the super clean AA currently on the list. Medium roasts bring a thicker and smoother cup, reducing the acidity to just a hint. Darker roasts turn strong and semi-sweet, a potent cup once you hit second crack.

The Kirimiri Factory & FCS is located in Kanja, Kenya’s Embu district. Built in the early 1980’s, the Kirimiri Factory has been producing SL-28, SL-34, and Ruiru 11 offerings from contributing members’ farms for almost 40 years.

Currently there are 946 total members of which 722 were active contributors to this offering. The average farmer has about two hectares of land and 250 trees.

Coffee is here picked ripe and brought to the factory for depulping, washing, and soaking; farmers receive training every year from the factory manager. The factory’s water comes from the Kirimiri stream, and there are four soaking pits for recycling and purifying the water.

Tasting Notes: A good cup from light to dark.

Roasting Notes: We liked it best around a medium roast but if you like acidity, go a bit lighter with it. If looking for something stout like and spicy, darker is best. A versatile bean. Roasts slightly two toned but no big challenges, medium to low chaff. Stronger cups like this often do better with a little longer setup.

Beautiful screen and prep – great fresh top notch Kenyan coffee. Kenyan coffee is considered by many to be some of the world’s best but it is unique. Stronger acidity and spice notes than any other producing nation.

Kenyans (including this one) are known for their complexity and depth of flavor. You will find all sorts of small minute notes including a refreshing citrus, slight berry, lemongrass, cocoa, molasses, tomato, black tea and a variety of others.

Varieties: SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11
