Description
Our newest herbal blend is very sweet and sparkly with a unique combination of fruits and spices. It has an attractive golden color and powerful peach, candy-sweet, riding over the top of numerous complex and delicate herbs.
The combination of large chunks of dried peach, apple, and rosehips with tiny but potent rooibos leaves produces a sugary and slightly tart, full-bodied cup with syrupy mouth-feel and spicy potpourri aroma. Turmeric is intriguingly emphasized and complimented by this unusual combo, providing a flavor profile both sweet and pungent. A truly distinctive herbal blend, this cup is a surprise party for your taste buds, sure to make you smile while also benefiting overall health with protective and invigorating turmeric.
A small amount of chamomile complicates the flavor profile with a cooling and slightly bitter edge (be careful not to oversteep, most of the ingredients in this blend can handle long extraction but chamomile turns very bitter after about 10 minutes), and it really compliments the earthy turmeric, which, compared to our other turmeric blends, has a more pronounced presence in the center of the cup. A little chamomile is probably not enough to put you to sleep, but has a lovely calming and soothing effect, making Turmeric Peach Nectar an excellent choice for after-work relaxation.
Rooibos, or “red bush,” is native to the western coast of South Africa, and it has been harvested from the wild for millennia. Only recently cultivated, it has quickly gained a high reputation as a cheap and delicious caffeine-free tea alternative, and its popularity has spread to every continent. Rooibos leaves have a malty sweetness reminiscent of black tea, but also a variety of their own unique accents, with strawberry, honey, and vanilla notes, as well as earthy and tobacco undertones. Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. It contains vibrant yellow curcumin, with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities (and a great dye – don’t spill it on white clothes!). But curcumin is only one among a palette of curcuminoids, plus a variety of compounds known as tumerones, all of which contribute to the invigorating and restorative power of this much-loved herb. Read our blog article about Turmeric Blends.
A note about the health benefits of turmeric: The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is absorbed into the body much better when combined with piperine, a compound in black pepper. It is very common to combine turmeric and black pepper, as in our Turmeric Cider Spice Org Herbal Blend, to enhance health benefits. The other Turmeric Blends are meant to appeal to wider audiences, so they omit the black pepper in favor of more sweet spices and fruits, etc. But if you would like to maximize the absorption of immune-boosting curcumin, you can just top your cup with a little bit of fresh-ground pepper!
