Description

This herbal infusion includes a bright bouquet of fruits and flowers in addition to healing turmeric.  Producing a vibrant crimson cup, the velvety thick-bodied liquor is zippy and slightly spicy.  Hibiscus lends its magenta hue and also gives the cup an overall tart taste, amplified by orange peel and rosehips.  Rooibos deepens and softens the flavor profile, rounding out the edges with subtle vanilla and malty notes.  The pungency of turmeric is mostly hidden under sweetening stevia and rich complex rooibos.

Hibiscus is packed with anthocyanins – the same powerful antioxidants that can be found in blueberries and Kenyan Purple Tea.  In addition to boosting the immune system, decreasing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, and maintaining healthy cholesterol, it also has powerful cooling effects and mild diuretic properties.  Often compared to cranberry, hibiscus is extremely tart – in fact about 15-30% of the herb is made up of organic acids including ascorbic, citric, malic, and tartaric acids, as well as a unique compound known as “hibiscus acid.”  A cup of hibiscus infusion has about 10x as much Vitamin C as a cup of orange juice!

Rooibos, or “red bush,” is native to the western coast of South Africa, and it has been harvested from the wild for millennia. Only recently has it been cultivated, but it has gained a high reputation as a cheap and delicious caffeine-free tea alternative, and its popularity has spread to every continent. Tiny red leaves have a malty sweetness reminiscent of black tea, but also a variety of their own unique accents, with strawberry, honey, and vanilla notes, as well as earthy and tobacco undertones.   Check out this blog article to see all our Rooibos Blends!

Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. It contains vibrant yellow curcumin, with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities (and a great dye – don’t spill it on white clothes!).  But curcumin is only one among a palette of curcuminoids, plus a variety of compounds known as tumerones, all of which contribute to the invigorating and restorative power of this much-loved herb.  Read our blog article about Turmeric Blends.

A note about the health benefits of turmeric:  The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is absorbed into the body much better when combined with piperine, a compound in black pepper.  It is very common to combine turmeric and black pepper, as in our Turmeric Cider Spice Org Herbal Blend, to enhance health benefits.  The other Turmeric Blends are meant to appeal to wider audiences, so they omit the black pepper in favor of more sweet spices and fruits, etc.  But if you would like to maximize the absorption of immune-boosting curcumin, you can just add a little bit of fresh-ground pepper to your cup – it will be even zestier!
