Our buddy Jim at Terruno Nayarita created a mobile cupping lab system call Finca Labs. They are in action at coffee farms all over the world. He made these cool cupping bowls to go with the setup but they were too fragile to transport overseas, unfortunately lots of breakage, so it got booted out of the kits. They are fragile glass but do not crack with high water temps.

An unfortunate issue for Finca Labs, but a coo for the rest of us. A wonderful cupping bowl for only $3.99! 6 bowls for only $18!

We were working on making our own branded ceramic ones, but boy were they expensive. I asked around to find a good manufacturer and my buddies at San Cristobal say hey, we got a couple thousand sitting around we can’t use that well let go for super cheap. So here they are. We grabbed 100 of them to start, but will bring in more if you all love them as much as we do.

Okay, here’s the simple guide in English with names for each step:

Easy Coffee Cupping: Your Quick Guide

Unlock the secrets of your favorite coffee. Tasting like an expert is easy!


1. Weigh Your Beans
  • Measure out 12 grams of your favorite Burman coffee beans.

 


 

2. Grind Fresh
  • Grind your beans to a medium coarseness (like table salt) right before you start. Smell that aroma!

 


3. Brew Your Coffee
  • Pour hot water (just off the boil) over the ground coffee, filling the cup.
  • Wait for 4 minutes. A crust will form on top.

 


4. Break & Smell
  • Bring your nose close and gently break the coffee crust with a spoon. Enjoy the aromas!
  • Scoop off any foam and coffee grounds from the top.

 


5. Taste & Note
  • Let it cool down a bit.
  • Slurp the coffee loudly from your spoon.
  • Think about the flavors: Sweet, fruity, chocolatey? Jot it down!
