Colombian Geisha Finca La Pradera Buenos Aires

$10.99

Very complex lemony floral and sweet tones with a hint of orange in the aftertaste. Real light roasts get a little more lemony floral with just a hint of soft fruit. Caramel tones start to develop at a medium roast along with the orangish sparkle and continue until close to 2nd crack when it turns a little more bakers chocolaty. A super cool mix of floral, soft fruit, caramel, and chocolate tones. Very sweet upfront regardless of roast level.

Description

What is a Geisha coffee and why would I want to pay more for it?

Geisha is a selectively bred strain of coffee known for its overly floral, clean and sweet cup profile. Often top grades will sell for $90+ per pound roasted. The strain itself is fairly new, low yield plants that are very finicky where they grow. This unqiue cup profile accompanied with the growing issues (low yield, finicky strain) cause the price to be pretty astronomical. We at Burman Coffee tend to struggle with paying $50 plus for even unqiue coffee but are quick to grab a good deal that shows Geisha attributes, fun to play with and a great deal for what it is. Not an award winning Geisha but very nice screen and bean size with very clear Geisha attributes. A tasty cup.

Dionel Chilito Lopez owns the 10-hectare farm La Pradera, where he grows 3 hectares of coffee, including Gesha variety. Dionel is from a family of coffee producers, and his father gave him his first piece of land when he was still a teenager, where Dionel grew Caturra. After focusing on Caturra for many years, he received some positive feedback about Gesha and decided to switch his production to include that coffee.

He picks the coffee ripe when they are dark red, depulps them the afternoon they are picked after sorting them through azaranda, and dry ferments for 36 hours. He washes the coffee 2–3 times before putting them in parabolic dryers for 16–18 days.

Roasting Notes:
A light to dark roast offering but when your paying up for a Geisha, it is mainly for the light to medium roast fans. Geisha coffees are all about the lighter tones, which will burn out at darker roasts. If your shooting for a light roast, drag out the profile a bit; the beans will still be a bit splotchy in color, medium roast is right as the splotchy color goes solid and a slight sheen can be seen. Setup is key with this guy – try to wait at least 24 hours before drinking.
