Kenya Kirinyaga AB – Faith Estate – Top Lot

$8.65

Medium roasts are where this cup will shine. Tasty at almost any roast level but too dark will burn out the exotic tones that one is paying up for. Traditional light roasts are where one will see the higher acidity and plenty of citric floral tones, can be a bit sharp, a cool cup but hard to drink all day. Medium roasts ease up on the acidity but do not rid the cup of it, a crisp citric/floral sparkle balanced with hints of caramel, dark chocolate and some black tea accents, decently exotic but easy to drink, a rare combination. Darker roasts are on the sweet side; fuller bodied with strong chocolate notes and a smoky aftertaste.

Description

A rare offering, even for boutique premium Kenyans. A single farm, female-owned and fully-traceable bean, how cool! Even better, this cup is amazingly clean and very highly rated.

Although still highly rated, this “normal” sized bean offering has a bit more body and stronger dark tones to the cup than the AA. If looking for delicate and exotic, check out the AA. If you like the classic Kenyan fuller bodied and stronger chocolaty tones, this AB screen will match perfectly.

Tasting Notes: Medium roasts are where this cup will shine.

Roasting Notes: An easy bean to roast. We recommend keeping it before 2nd crack. If you tend to like high acidity coffees, a city to city+ roast will be the way to go. If you are not an acidity fan, push the roast a bit closer to 2nd crack. A longer set up time is critical for those looking for smooth and exotic. Between the acidity and freshness of roast, this cup can come out a bit front loaded (full of lighter brighter tones) at lighter roasts until it mellows.

Kirinyaga coffee always holds a special place in my heart. My earliest coffee memories involved Kirinyaga coffee. Garry (well before Burman Coffee was in existence) was always a coffee head, I remember helping my mother make him pour overs of his favorite brew when I was only a couple feet tall. Golden Kirinyaga coffee from Victor Allen was his premium special coffee, not an everyday item, but one for special occasions. Even back then Kenyans were very expensive and rare coffees. I remember the first fathers day I was actually able to buy him something myself from saved money, it was a bag of Golden Kirinyaga coffee.
