Hawaiian Kona Greenwell Farms – Fancy Grade

$34.99

New 2020/21 crop! Didn’t quite make it in time for the Holiday but well worth the wait.

Great balanced cup, hints of acidity upfront, very clean with a more chocolaty finish. Can be roasted from light to dark. The acidity is a bit citrus/floral but some soft islandy fruit tones can be found with light to medium roasting and a little longer setup time. From a medium roast on, the acidity is very gentle and balanced with a smooth to rough chocolaty cup profile, milk chocolate before 2nd crack, bakers chocolate and smoky into 2nd crack. Medium bodied, these beans as well as other Kona’s are mild cups comparatively to many other origins, be in for a delicate and tasty cup with layers of goodness.

Description

New 2020/21 crop! Didn’t quite make it in time for the Holiday but well worth the wait.

Hawaii has had a troubled couple of years – crops have been down huge, prices are sky rocketing, quality slipping, bad weather, volcanoes and hurricanes. The impact on many coffee lots from the islands can be seen in almost every lot, if one can even find them. Luckily we have some awesome friends at Greenwell and they hoarded the best of the best for us. A gem of a lot and very highly rated. Defect free, large beans and a very tasty cup.

The Greenwell Farms legacy began in 1850 when Henry Nicholas Greenwell left England and first set foot on the fertile soil of rural Kona.

Greenwell farms is one of the biggest names in Kona coffee. This is their highest quality bean, a very large, clean, polished coffee with a flavor matching the looks.

Tasting Notes: Great balanced cup, hints of acidity upfront, very clean with a more chocolaty finish.

Roasting Notes: A quick light roast are pretty bright and semi-herbal, if you don’t mind some very floral citrus like tones, the cup will be most exotic at the lighter roast points. Medium roasts are gentle and sweet, a cup everyone will love. Darker roasts are a little bit of shame, burns out some cool islandy tones but makes the cup much stronger and a bit fuller bodied.
