Kenya Kirinyaga Baragwi Peaberry

(1 customer review)

$7.99

Clean classic Kenyan coffee. Very bright upfront with strong citrus floral edge, almost a lemony acidity. Balanced with complex bakers chocolate undertone, one can tell its a Kenyan bean upon first sip. All sorts of little spice and herbal tones come out of the chocolaty factor.

Description

Coming from family owned farms organized around the Karumandi Factory (wet mill) located in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, a growing region in the fertile foothills of Mount Kenya. Farmer plots are so small that measurements are based on the numbers of trees, not area of land. Farmers who process their coffee at the Karumandi Factory are members of the Baragwi Farming Cooperative Society, which was established in 1953 and has 16,892 members. Baragwi supports a women’s group called the Mount Kenya Project, which was implemented to improve quality of life through socio-economic projects aimed at reducing poverty and increasing business knowledge in rural communities.

Tasting Notes: Clean classic Kenyan coffee. Very bright upfront with strong citrus floral edge, almost a lemony acidity. Balanced with complex bakers chocolate undertone, one can tell its a Kenyan bean upon first sip. All sorts of little spice and herbal tones come out of the chocolaty factor. The herbal tones are on the stronger side and are usually what separates a Kenya from other guys like a Tanz or Burundi.

Roasting Notes: Good to avoid extremes on this cup, super light roasts are very front-loaded with acidity, super dark roasts are edgy with most of the jazz burned out. Anywhere in-between will make a stellar pronounced African cup.

Good stuff. This was some really special coffee I served some to my brother in-law who advised it was the best cup of coffee he ever had in his entire life. I thought it was pretty darn good too… I want more.
