Kenya Nyeri Mugaga – Kiamabara AA Top Lot

$9.69

Regular Price $10.69/lb
A great cup! Super clean in its cup characters. Very bright and somewhat fruity at the lighter roasts; citrus, floral and red fruit balanced with just hint of a herbal chocolaty factor. Medium roasts get much nicer balance but build a big bodied darker tone pretty quickly, covers up most of the fruity factor but the more citrus floral cuts right through it, almost a grapefruit tone a the right roast. Darker roasts get very strong with predominate bakers chocolate and herbal like tones coming through, a little smoky and roasty.

Description

New 2022 crop!

This is one heck of a top lot. Potent stuff and screams Kenya. Higher acidity gives all sorts of overly floral, citric and soft fruit tones that linger into the aftertaste.  Very chocolaty and fuller bodied with tea like spice notes and a little of that classic Kenyan herbal factor. Somewhere in the balance one gets a hints of fruitiness and caramel before it hits you with that strong chocolaty undertone.

Just outside the Kiamabara Township in the Gichugu Division of Nyeri is Kiamabara Factory. It’s one of five factories in the area managed by the Mugaga F.C.S. Built in the early 1980s, the factory collects cherry from over 900 farmers around the village and in the surrounding catchment.

Each factory manager in the Co-op is re-trained every year by CMS, in addition to field days being held by the minister of agriculture and agrochemical companies that deliver inputs to the farmers. Kiamabara also has planted a demonstration plot beside the factory to provide an educational resource through out the calendar. CMS field agents and Co-op Management use this plot to show best practices such as input timing and pruning as well as harvest training for pickers.

Roasting Notes:
Avoid super light roasts for they will be pretty “blasting” with acidity. Also like to avoid super dark roasts with this guy – will cause an awesome cup to turn pretty edgy. Sweet spot is from a city roast to full city roast – fancy words for a medium roast :-). If you like the bright notes, aim a little lighter. If you don’t like those bright notes make sure to get closer to 2nd crack than 1st. If roasted to match; a cup almost anyone will love.
