Burundi Kayanza – Mparamirundi – Bourbon Washed Processed

$5.75

Low Stock Blowout! Only 30 pounds left. Normally $7.35/lb
A awesome and super clean Burundi coffee. Best light to medium, works dark as well for robust coffee fans. A bit of lemony floral acidity upfront with a hint of soft fruit, balancing with a potent semi-sweet chocolate undertone with strong spice. Small hints of an herbal/tea like tone in the aftertaste letting you know its an African coffee. A bit sizzling but holds lighter roasts nicely. Smoother, slightly less spice notes and more chocolaty factor at a  medium roast, much heftier into the darker roast, turning it into a strong and fuller bodied cup. A great African cup and not too acidic, one almost everyone will like.

Description

Low Stock Blowout! Only 30 pounds left.
A wonderful new Burundi offering.  Great top lot for you classic African fans. This cup screams Africa to us, like a nice Kenya coffee. Raised acidity, with crisp lemony floral and soft fruit tones balancing with also very strong herbal/vegetal/tea like spice, fuller bodied more semi-sweet chocolate tones. One sip and you know where this cup came from.

Tasting Notes: A awesome and super clean Burundi coffee.

Roasting Notes: Easy to roast, would avoid real light roasts if you do not like acidity but easily clean enough to roast light. Medium roasts were wonderful  being delicate and a smooth cup. Darker roasts produced some great African tones with a strong bakers chocolate note, toasty notes complimented the cup.

Cafex was launched by a Belgian-Burundian couple that wanted to combine the coffee production of their ancestral lands with sustainable development and a desire to improve the lives of the local population. Cafex has developed a profitable business model for all parties based on mutual participation with growers. The town where the washing station is located is undeveloped and the presence of the Cafex station has provided people with better paying jobs and a better quality of life. Families who have a seasonal job have the opportunity to receive an extra income that gives them access to medical care or allows them to buy books in order to send their children to school. Whereas many coffee producers have to wait many months to receive final payment for their harvest, Cafex has introduced a weekly payment to growers, with no delay. This allows them to have a regular income throughout the harvest coffee season.
